Thats the problem though. Cardi B is a popstar. So these attempts at having a harder sound dont suit her tbh. I think people are starting to realize that about her and the true lack of amazing songs.

Song was awful

The song is terrible… it sounds more of the same 

 

What went wrong?? … Well It never had a chance to become a hit 

Most people didn’t like the song, simple as that. 
 

She doesn’t even care about the song why should people do? She said she wasn’t even gonna lift a finger for this song and that’s kinda off putting, personally i really enjoy the song but i hate the video. 

song is way too long to be this mid. No one wants to be disappointed twice so no streams

She broke through with Bodak Yellow though which was as rap as it gets. She didn’t pivot to the pop thing until I Like It took off. I think she just needs more memorable bars and not just meme lines.

I think her formula expired. She needs to come up with something else. I know WAP is kind of iconic but after I Like It I feel like all of her videos are like “beautiful gowns great gowns”

What fun and bubbly image did Up serve? The new single is basically a lesser "Up" anyway. Nicki Minaj was coming off of actual Disney pop and clown visuals

not a good or memorable song, and no video until a week later when everyone was over the song. She can bounce back but this wasn’t it.

Showed no evolution as an artist. Showed no reinvention. Just gave the same hot ****.

A camp / colorful video does not make Cardi a popstar or Up a pop single. Up went #1 on urban radio and was all over rap and hip hop playlists, not pop. WAP was also #2 on hip hop airplay and #1 on rhythmic with no presence on pop. All of Cardi's hits are hip hop minus I Like It. Hot **** is not a return to form or an attempt to regain hip hop cred just because the video has darker colors  She's in no way comparable to Nicki in 2012, when all her hits had been pop or r&b sing-alongs

cardi is definitely a pop star. just because she's not singing Stargate edm songs like starships doesn't mean her music isn't POP. her songs use POP-style song structrues and she consistently puts on the kind of performances associated with the pop-star aesthetic see: WAP @ the grammys. 

 

rappers can be pop stars and this weird distinction using radio formats?????? which is incredibly antiquated is not the argument u think it is
