Oh wow! A legitimate Golden Hitmaker. :jonny5: Your feedback would definitely be most appreciated among these circles I'm sure!

Omg, I didn't know you were still active here. Seeing the list, and your name right before mine, made me nostalgic for the OldTRL days (back when I had enough free time to be involved in the games nnnn) :'(

It would be lovely if you could even participate in a single round in a future season! Golden Hit seasons only last about six rounds/weeks and usually have ~5 day deadlines. It's been so long since I've seen any of your amazing works!

Sounds like your song might have been a little ahead of its time for certain people.  One of Golden Hit's writers, @Remmy, saw considerable acclaim with a sex bop "Flowerbloom", so you never know what Golden Hit 2 might have in the cards for you!

Speaking of which, I might as well share Flowerbloom while I'm here :fan:

[verse 1]
He/him hoe with a they/them c*ochie
But a big, big bone make me she/her poochie
I'm a doggy with a tongue, don't need no Snapchat filter
Desperate for water, yeah this flower's 'bout to wilter

I know you're h*rny, but just be cautious, this bush is thorny
Searchin' for a big boy, so in that case, you're perfect for me
And if you need more, don't you worry, let's make this three
Like an alien attack, you fightin' back, call you Sigourney

[pre-chorus]
Baby, I can roleplay, whatever gets you out those clothes
If you wanna blossom this rose -
I need somethin'...

[chorus]
Wetter than the ocean, taller than the trees
Done this before, so skip the birds and the bees
(This is the p**sy that you chose... so show me where you stick that hose)
Wetter than the ocean, taller than the trees
Done this before, already down on my knees
(It's lonely out here in these meadows... so show me how your wind, blooows)

[verse 2]
Sloppy toppy, he love to rock me
Leave me with a soggy bottom, soaked and soppy
He knows how to hydrate, my gentle poppys
Got me like a flash flood, in Abu Dhabi

Oh I'm moanin' and wheezin', he f**kin' and pleasin'
Straight to the point, he's got no time for teasin'
Make sure I'm not bleedin', and then we repeatin'
That c**k is so Grande, gotta remember "keep breathin'”

[pre-chorus]
Baby, I can dress up, put on some kinky clothes
If it makes you blossom this rose-
I need somethin'...

[chorus]
Hotter than the sun, and softer than the snow
I'm like a broken porta potty, seconds from overflow
(This is the p**sy that you know... give me protein to help me grow)
Hotter than the sun, and softer than the snow
If you want this garden, you're gonna need a hoe
(Let's play a game of whack-a-mole... gotta put your hammer right to my hole)
(Hole... hole.... hole...... hold up!)

[verse 3]
I'm strugglin' to stand, he's holding my hand
Feels like I just went through surgery
Flipped upside down, just like my world
I think retrograde in Mercury

All I can hear is boom, boom, boom
Wondering what the neighbors assume
Bed vibratin', and it's shaking up the room
He knows how to make this flower bloom

[outro]
(Yeah, yeah... yeah, yeah)
He knows how to make this flower bloom
(Yeah, yeah... yeah, yeah)
Oh, he knows how to make this flower bloom

as well as Paper Airplane Crashes, which was my highest peaking entry @ #3 & completely different from the song above!

[verse 1]
Watching myself through an astral projection
Shaking my head at every selection, I make
I let out a laugh, while everyone has a frown
I'm never quite on the same page

Feeling like a burden, everytime I get a word in
Even with my own family
Somebody called to ask about the kids
You completely skip over my name
And when I yell at you for that
I don't know how you stand the sight of me

All I do is disappoint you
A crowd full of people that love me... the seats are empty
And even though the seats are empty
No, there's no room for you in here

[instrumental break]

[verse 2]
I'm not destined for a long life
Always tell myself I'll never hit fourty
"Where do you see yourself in 10 years?"
There's an answer I can never see

I'm a professional at wasting time
Got over a decade full of proof
But once I run out of it
I'll probably be begging for more
Wish I could give some time up
To the people that have little left

Not sure if I can truly love anything
Every positive thought barely sticks around
Sometimes it feels like I'm not even alive
I guess I'm living just to survive

[instrumental break]

[bridge]
My engine's starting to fail
We're spinning out of control
No one responds when I call
Body separates from the soul
1,000 feet above the ocean
There's nothing I can do anymore...

[verse 3]
My paper airplane crashes, stuck in water for too long
And I tried to save the bodies, but the current was too strong
Now the trauma never leaves, I fear that it will be lifelong
So now I live out each day recalling things that I did wrong

Oh so wrong, Oh so wrong. I did every damn thing wrong.
Took too long, took too long. Now the hope in me is gone.
Hope is gone, hope is gone. How do I just carry on?
Carry on.

I definitely may throw my hat back in the ring again! I love to write and still keep up to it to this day, so definitely if i have time!

We love to see it :gaycat: would be very fun, we’ve tried to make GH not too much of a commitment either so we allow people to miss rounds if they are too busy that week (means they score a 0 for that round so it does lower their overall average, but means that people can keep playing regardless of busy schedules!)

Ahhh we’ll make sure to tag you when it’s starting again!

In the game all we judge is lyrics and it’s specifically writing based, but if you also sing/compose and are able to record your songs so we can appreciate the melody too then we definitely encourage that as well! We love seeing any and all creativity and its amazing when we see people recording their songs/making instrumentals/creating single covers and album ideas etc., but the only thing that actually gets scored are the lyrics, anything else is optional and just for fun :bird: it can be a really great creative outlet though and it’s so cool seeing all the different things that people make

While fountain pretty much covered everything in the post above, there's definitely a sense of natural rhythm and flow that can be conveyed with carefully crafted lyrical choices and arrangements, as well as through the use of literary devices such as meter, internal rhyming, alliterations etc. While it may be easier to capture an interesting vocal melody in an actual recorded song, I believe it's definitely possible to craft a vibe that lets you "hear" (or more accurately, feel) how a song might sound just from lyrics on a page, and allow the reader to easily imagine their own melodies!

Started something else today, anyone else move on to different ideas as soon as they come or do they like to finish a song they started first?

Let’s make a toast to all the blues

I’ll raise a glass

Linger on the past, till it’s old news.

It’s often times we stop that we finally see

Even when winds changed

Watching Times mistakes, you were there for me

And I’ll drink another one

Pour another one

It’s usually never one.

And I’ll drink another one

Pour another one

‘Til I’m the only one.

I usually like to finish one idea before moving onto the next, however I do acknowledge that sometimes this is a bit of a self-destructive habit. After all, creativity and inspiration can strike unexpectedly, and if you're trying to force your writing in one direction when going with the natural flow might take you in a completely new one, ignoring that might end up making for a less than excellent result. Even with the most recent song I'm (still) writing, I spent a few hours on this particular verse section trying to get all of the pieces to fall into place and I just wasn't happy with it. When I finally called it a night I had all of these ideas come to me while I was trying to sleep that were so much better than anything I thought up while trying to force ideas out. Fortunately I had my phone next to me so I could jot them down and revisit them in the morning (and I did end up using a lot of them!) so that's another good idea—always have a means of writing or recording when inspiration strikes.

Tangent aside, I love what you have here! Especially the second stanza, very much serving pop bop with meaning! I hope you're able to finish this one. :duca:

I guess it depends on the intention behind the song for me, am I writing it because there is something specific that I want to say and a message that I think it can have, or am I writing it just for fun and because it sounds good to me? At least personally in my own writing I find it easier when I give a song the intention of saying something, but it can differ for everybody and the type of writer you are/want to be. From what you have of this so far it seems like it could actually go either way, so it feels like a pretty nice starting place for something no mater what direction you might take it!

Posted

Oh I really enjoyed both of your perspectives on that @Aurora and @fountain. I think because my lyrical writing is so closely tied to my melody writing I am so used to working with such short ideas and motifs. Unless I get really inspired I’ll just leave the idea and come back to it, I actually write little notes if I think something was strong and put like *come back to this* or something of that manner to remind future me.

It's now just less than a week until the thread for the second season of Golden Hit is posted!

We really hope everybody is looking forward to another great writing experience ahead. @Aurora and I were incredibly impressed by what you all showcased during the first season, so if that is anything to go by we're in for another amazing time; and I look forward to our new judge getting to see the talent that you all have too!

Oh, that's right, we'll be welcoming a new judge to the panel this season alongside myself and Aurora.

It goes without saying that there is a surplus of amazing, gifted people who could have taken this position, and I also look forward to seeing who else may play this role in future seasons! That said, without getting ahead of ourselves, this person we have chosen to join us for season two showed such fantastic songwriting prowess during the first season, that it was a no brainer to choose them!

Everybody give a warm welcome to the judging panel...
