Virgos Groove Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 We all know sisters albums (Sweetener x TUN, Folklore x Evermore), but what are some albums by different artists that still feel related in a way? I always felt like these two pairs of three albums always felt related, as they all share producers, collaborations, etc. and were recorded and released around the same time. Are there any other group of albums where you notice something similar?
Last Boy on Earth Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 Velvet Rope and Take Me Apart. More like Mom and daughter rather than cousins but I feel the exact same energy and vibes when listening to those 2 albums

LAMB was so interesting and ahead of its time that it could be from any year, spanning decades, whereas TSE definitely seems like its from the same 2006 time as the other 2 albums. Not in a bad way at all, I'm one of the rare people who prefers it to LAMB slightly (Early Winter alone, hello!), but it's definitely closer in every way to the Loose & The Dutchess imo

I don't even mean quality or sound per se, but more like ... those three are always paired together as representative of that time in music, and they're each the most iconic album from the three artists. But ik what you mean!
magazine Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 When Little Mix tried to copy magnum opus tropical house album 7/27 even the artwork was copied, down to the border I- those british girls really had ZERO artistry and respect for music

KatyPrismSpirit Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 for some reason i always feel like ray of light, the velvet rope and miseducation are cousins or have some weird thing in common.
KatyPrismSpirit Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 also i feel like thriller, purple rain, like a virgin and rhythm nation are cousins. the exquisite pop bibles of the 80s!

Yakult Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 These albums encapsulated a very specific sound in pop/r&b. Danja was the main glue behind this sound, but there were a lot of interesting songwriters coming through on different albums at the time. It was interesting seeing how artists adapted when R&B was possibly at its least inspired point in the late 2000s. That dark, glitchy sound was equally influenced by chiptune and undergeround electronic music as it was by Danja's mentor Timbaland. These three albums are interesting. All released around the same time, following up massive albums for each artist. I feel like fans were disappointed with all three when they were released. The general consensus was that Mariah and Usher were giving us more of the same, but without the massive songs of their previous eras. While this was the first time Madonna was seen as playing catch up, after being ahead of the trend for the her career up to that point. All three albums had great lead singles, with terrible single choices being made later in the campaign. Though markets were changing and so was their position in the industry. All in all I feel like fans appreciate these albums more so than they did in 2008, even if they fell short of becoming fan favourites/cult classics.
