The best of the titular Heaux Tales belongs to Donna Anderson, a relative of Jazmine Sullivan’s godmother, who delivers a sermon, complete with church organ, about not looking down on sex work because every relationship, even marriage, is built on tricking. Recorded on Jazmine’s iPhone during a dinner party organized by her mother, it’s a profane and hilarious introduction to the materialism anthem “Price Tags.”

 

Best bit: “Let's keep this shit fuckin' rеal/You're fucking your husband, so you can get what the fuck you want”

It's my favorite! It absolutely deserved to be the highest-ranked of the tales.

 

And I find it kind of funny that it won that tiebreaker with "Enough For You."

This gospel-tinged offering from 30 about trying to heal from a painful breakup, co-written and produced by Inflo, made its debut in an Amazon commercial a few weeks before the holiday season. An epic journey through self-doubt and acceptance, “Hold On” finally erupts into a choir of Adele’s own friends reassuring her, “You are still strong.”

 

Best bit: “Sometimes loneliness is the only rest we get”

 

ATRL says...: “Too long,” @Ace Reject lamented. @Ewan Chaos agreed that the ending was “cute,” but it was “not worth the whole thing for that payoff.” @BnPac called it a “complete fail.” She said “all the elements of a ‘deep’ soul song were put in but cooked wrong.”

Yeah this is definitely fine to be out already. I know a decent amount of people like I Drink Wine but I'd be happy for that to leave soon too as far as "long songs on the album" go.

Jazmine Sullivan prepares listeners for the emotional climax of Heaux Tales with a somber confession by friend Rashida Northington about cheating on her fiancée with her fiancée’s best friend. Layered over a variation of the harmonies from “Lost One,” it lays the groundwork perfectly for the stunning ballad to come.

ATRL says...: “Okay, this one was pretty good,” @creativity. acknowledged. “Both the story and the harmonizing in the background.”

Another tale that beat a real song in a tiebreak. Jazmine her power! Or maybe you all were just really on one in this rate.

THE RAPPER THAT CAME TO TEA (INTERLUDE)

ATRL says...: “I just don't know how to rate interludes tbh,” @BnPac conceded. Fair enough!

The orchestral sounds were a little too much in that one but def one of the better interludes

So that's it for the interludes (depending on how you classify "All Night Parking). Congratulations to Little Simz on winning that battle.
