I do love reputation a lot, since I’m a massive Taylor stan but it just confuses me that people genuinely think it’s her best album

Reputation was undoubtedly bigger with its multiple hit singles and massive sales, but Folklore had the better album cover and is objectively better.

Only LWYMMD and Delicate were semi hits. The rest are the biggest flops of her career.

LWYMMD is one of her biggest smashes to date. RFI also did really well for a botched release so that leaves End Game as the only flop single.

New Years Day was a single too  

 

and LWYMMD is absolutely forgotten at this point. It had no longevity. I’d argue Wildest Dreams and Style were bigger along with ALL of her actual smashes bring significantly bigger. 

Folklore better and soon it will be bigger. 

The only pre-2020 album in her discography that compares to Folklore is Red.

It was only serviced to one radio format (country). That doesn't make it a proper single like say, Delicate, which was promoted to HAC and pop radio. I agree with your second statement though, it wasn't as big as 1989's smashes (bar maybe Bad Blood) but it was still a hit in its own right, and a global one too.

 

Either way, Cardigan and Exile can't compare.  (DGMW, they're still better songs)

Congrats to Folklore for being more acclaimed but it's not gonna be remembered as Taylor's last album to sell 1M in its first week - Reputation will. Folklore will go down as the album that brought her goodwill after LoSer's mishaps

LOVER has become a GP classic  if anything it’s going to be more remembered than ANY of her post 1989 albums

All main singles from 1989 are bigger than LWYMMD and Delicate (which was very local too). Even Style despite being the smallest of the 5 singles.

LWYMMD is not even in her top 10 hot 100 hits  and RFI did HORRIBLY. It was a major flop period. End Game was a complete bomb, and so was NYD. Only Delicate and LWYMMD performed decently, but were no smashes by any means
