Namie Amuro

Featured Replies

We lost the original OP :cries:

Due to her career longevity, resilience, professionalism, efforts behind-the-scenes in the music industry, and her way of life, she is considered a pop culture icon in Japan and Asia. She has been referred to as "Diva of Heisei Era" and the "Queen of Japanese Pop", and has been recognized as having the influence and career impact domestically equivalent to artists such as Janet Jackson and Madonna in Western music and pop culture.

Having sold more than 40 million records, Amuro is recognized as one of the best-selling artists in Japan by Oricon. Since her solo debut, she achieved top 10 singles for 23 consecutive years (#1 for solo artist). All of her albums are certified Platinum, and her debut solo album, Sweet 19 Blues, was the best selling album in Japan. She is the only artist in Japan to sell a million albums in her teens, 20s, 30s and 40s. Her last album, Finally, topped the year-end album charts of both Oricon and Billboard Japan for two consecutive years (the first and only artist in the Japanese Music Industry to do so).

Utada may be slaying with her newfound quality, but Namie will forever be the influential Queen of J-Pop with the overall greatest discography. She continues to hold the record for the best-selling single by a solo female artist.

Like. Now is her time to shine with a house or disco album.

Been blasting Hope recently, her wiping off her entire discography off streaming made me remember how into her music I was before her retirement   she really was able to pull a great anime soundtrack

  • When she made all those One Piece songs, it was a hint that she supports piracy I fear   Anyway, SWEET KISSES pop perfection

Her 90s-early 00s run is unparalleled for me in J-Pop, but I do think her final studio albums took a major dip in quality (aged like much of late 00s and early 10s pop). There are still some gems from that era like her Arca collab.

Her best songs, IMO:

I Have Never Seen (Love Enhanced version)

B w/z You

Can You Celebrate?
Lovebite

A Walk in the Park

Private

Kiss and Ride

Leavin for Las Vegas

What a Feeling

She also used to give incredible shows at the Tokyo Dome in her prime (and her vocals had some relatively strong periods):

So glad you told me about that song as a standout from her last few LPs :jonny:

SOPHIE really did her thing and it's really unexpected but it works

I still like _genic, it's probably her best late-career album. Uncontrolled was basically a singles compilation and FEEL is dated 2013 EDM but this one holds up quite well

How long before the Utada fans come in here suffering?

she makes one non-generic album and suddenly she's the Bjork of J-Pop.

Someone wake her up from her chrysalis and tell her we need the Suite Chic album on streaming, like yesterday

Why are certain girlies so pressed about Namie :deadbanana4:

They pretend like she only ever made Genic type music.

Has there been like ANY sighting of her since her retirement? Do we even know where she is? Apparently, she was meant to be doing some things behind the scenes.

It's kinda insane there are no paparazzi photos of her or anyting :deadbanana4:

here the OP talks about some sightings of her here and there but she's being the elusive chanteuse and avoids being noticed at any cost

Thanks. She really is elusive. There's like no fan sighting videos at all either. Also I wonder where OP got the England sighting from? Or was that meant to be a joke...

Bump.

I miss this queen so much. Namie Amuro was quite possibly the best popstar of all-time. Truly the queen of singing and dancing at the same time, and her discography is flawless.

Same. I need her to at least do some kind of legacy-building to honor her discography :jonny:
