Conan Gray - 'Superache'

I loved Sunset EP and his droplets from back around then, but never really cared for Kid Krow. Really love this album from start to finish. No weak links here for me. He’s such a great, interesting writer; always has been. I’m not sure he’s really evolving artistically yet, but just maintaining the standard he set with “Lookalike” or “Crush Culture” is great.

Family Line. Jeez. Punching me in the face would’ve been less painful.

It's not a bad album, but there's too much slow songs for my taste and everything starts blending together. Movies, Disaster, Astronomy and Yours are my faves.

You don't have to act like all you feel is mild
You don't really love the Sun, it drives you wild

Summer ChiId his best song...

love this!

disaster is such a smasha! :jonny6:

family line and movies :jonny6:

the slow songs sound like Sour rejects and Jigsaw was like his attempt at HTE

Best Friend is worst song of the year material

the songwriting is sooooo clearly inspired by Taylor but he doesn't have the range to pull it off

thought it was okay until the last 5 songs which were mostly boring and corny

Completely agree about Jigsaw :rip: He wanted his HTE moment so bad but he just doesn't have the range I fear

I disagree about Best Friend though. It's objectively a bad song but idk, it bops a lil, especially in a sea of boring Sour outtakes

true it definitely stands out on the album but songs about best friends usually come off corny to me like Saweetie or Kesha :giraffe: slayyyter's bff on the other hand >>>

maybe she should sell some of her demos to conan :jonny5:

I don’t think it’s more… cohesive than the last album? It might be slightly better because it has less lowlights but this didn’t make an impression. I think Jigsaw probably stood out the most but it’s still just a throwaway single that turned out well, it’s far from his Happier Than Ever as y’all have pointed out.

I think the reason slower, stripped back music is seen as ‘real music’ is this idea that it’s more valuable, and I don’t agree with that but I agree with the underlying idea that it’s harder to do well - when you’re making bops you can dazzle us with production and tempos and vocal tricks, like how I Love New York by Madonna is horrendous but somehow also A-grade pop music - but the trouble is he doesn’t have the ability to pull this off. He clearly wanted to show he can do an album without relying on production and tempos and vocal tricks, and the main takeaway from it, which I always knew but now have had confirmed, is that he can’t.

It’s not outwardly bad! It’s something any GCSE music student with a working laptop, a journal riddled with cliches, and an entitlement complex could come up with in a few weeks. He is not worth the effort that comes with following him.

he just doesn't have the writing chops to pull it off. I think he wanted this to be his Red but he doesn't have anywhere near the writing skill or the right producers to make it happen. it also doesn't help that snail mail (who's younger than him) basically made an album with the exact same concept last year and it turned out 10x better

Honestly I love this so much! I do wish Overdrive and Telepath was on the OG album though, could've used the more uptempo songs but I've really had this on repeat the last week.

Lower debut than Kid Krow but similar numbers (KK did 49k)

if he had a proper single then it would have reached the Top5 again, but we know his label already left this album to do it all alone

outdo preditction, top 10 :clap3::cool::gaycat2: let me just... set the scene

his live looks so confident, love to see that :fan:

Love the looks but he’s gotta work on his stage presence. Also Disaster is one of the most fun songs of the year already but the video kinda is super meh and on Kid Krow era level.
