You are too! I guess I enjoy doing it so that makes it less tiring. A little serotonin rush in making someone else happy maybe? I should start a niche tumblr blog, I've always wanted to but you know...life gets in the way and there's never enough time in the day.

So for a video with black borders I'll usually just zoom in and crop them off, then adjust accordingly. When there's multiple scenes and someone is cut off/not in focus, I'll gif each shot separately and crop it so they're in the frame then combine them all later (luckily, this only happens rarely because it's a lot of extra work!). I could show you an example of how I do it if you send me the video.

Ooo I gotcha and yes please since I'm not sure how to do the zoom in part 😅 it always becomes blurry for some reason

Done. This is how I usually do it (just a small example from a random part). Here's a rundown:

 

1. Download video (obviously)

 

2. Crop video in a video editor if you need to (optional, you can do this in the program you use for gif making but it's easier if you do it prior)

 

2.1 I'll use this online option as an example (https://online-video-cutter.com/crop-video), you would go here, load your video and then crop to 21:9 in the custom aspect ratio options. The aspect ratio of the downloaded video is 16:9 due to the black bars, but without them it's 21:9. This will vary sometimes depending on how they filmed it, so you might have to do some googling to find out what the exact ratio is for that particular one. The process should be the same regardless of which editor you choose to use.

 

3. Once you've saved the cropped video, import to your gif maker of choice. From here, it's pretty straight forward and self explanatory. If you want to gif a part that has multiple angles and a center crop doesn't fit everything in, you'd make a gif for each shot separately with the appropriate cropping then combine them later. I like to use ezgif for that. An example of what I mean by "shot":

But wait, isn't there actually 2 shots in that gif? Sometimes, multiple shots will have everything in frame from one to the next and you can save time by keeping them together. Omg they actually look great. I'll definitely try this. Since I use instaiffer it sometimes doesn't like the smaller videos but I'll def give that online-video chopper a go 🥰
