Topaz Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Normani's career is definitely interesting. We'll definitely be able to tell after the first album. Tbh idk why none of the 5H girls can release an album almost 5 years since splitting. It makes no sense. Dinah should not have an issue dropping one bc she for sure should not be expecting commercial success. I feel like Ally was closest to one had she stayed with Atlantic and did their dance music like they wanted her to. But Lauren so far has the best project with prelude.

The difference is that there is actual demand for Normani’s album, nobody is wanting projects from the other girls including Camila.

cliche_display Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Not that person tryna hate on Normani for dating a rich Adonis-built sports star. She’s 26. What’s she supposed to do, put her life on hold until RCA drops her. Don’t most female singers date someone? Stop

This is her first relationship with someone else that’s also a public figure and she’s been pretty lowkey about it. Just because she can’t (or doesn’t want to depending on what you believe) release music doesn’t mean she should put her life on hold and not date, posts pictures or hang out with her friends occasionally. remming Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Glad she went from a backup dancer to a football player who just signed a $72 million contract. Let's hope she continues to date men with a job. Let's hope the tiktoks mean something music related is coming.

She's not going to get another Cardi-sized feature. Calvin Harris is a non-factor in 2022 so that doesn't count. In fact all her past collaborators including Khalid and Sam Smith are now flopping/over. Normani herself already feels like she was part of that mid/late 2010s wave that is now done, considering she came into prominence with Fifth Harmony who peaked in 2015-2016, and then she had her biggest hits with duets in 2018-2019. Like it's been years since those moments. Camila Cabello had a whole career arc with three albums, breakout, decline, and floppage, and is now on The Voice. The other 5H girls are retired. I just don't see how she can possibly get another hit at this point without a miracle. "Fair" being DOA showed she has no hype of her own. Her first solo solo track since Motivation and it didn't even chart on Spotify. I'm afraid that when "Say So" went viral in early 2020 RCA chose Doja as the breakout pop star and that was that. That's when Normani's career seemingly evaporated. It took her a year and a half to release any new music after that and only with a Cardi feature and perhaps only because of the Cardi feature. Yep. It’s actually over for her musically no doubt about it no matter what the last couple delulu’s wanna say. But she seems at peace now being a socialite

If she flops with a whole new music video with choreo and eye catching visuals then you can say she’s over but until then you can’t really say that since there’s no output to really judge but you’re obviously Familia stan.

She hasn’t released a fully promoted single since Wild Side. What percentage of promotion is an artist responsible for? What part of that responsibility falls to the radio and digital promoters at the label? The manager? Once the music is recorded, RCA owns it. You don’t seem to get that. I think what some of you are holding against her is “Normani, next superstar” marketing that was originally rolled out for her. That’s a very remote thing at this stage. There is something in the middle where she is a multifaceted entertainer who does music. She’s released more material this year than she has since 2018/2019 including songs for RCA, Columbia, and Atlantic. Do we expect her to campaign for her bookings and playlisting or should that be RCA and S10? I mean really. She’s put out material this year and we’ve heard leaked material. So what exactly are we complaining about? Seems more like a lack of backing than anything else. Artists rarely arrive at a hit without the proper exposure for their material. This is common sense. Motivation didn’t go top 40 because it was so much catchier than Checklist. It went top 40 because it had a big YouTube video premiere, TTH placement on Spotify, some pop radio play, and the hype of an upcoming award show performance. @Camilitau.u is right in that sense. Don’t we ever get tired of criticizing and complaining about just her? It’s as stale as her music antics. Again, the fans are the reason she gets so much backlash from other people because they’ve adopted this toxic posture of complaining about everything. Especially those of you who are always discussing her without being mature enough to admit that you don’t know what is going on bts. Meanwhile you cling to this obviously flawed notion that her career is dictated by her and her alone. Which encourages that all of the backlash go to her. Instead of us using our God-given intelligence to try to understand her career trajectory in the context of a major label system notorious for leaving artists behind (including her own group and most of its former members), some of us would rather perpetuate the narrative that something is uniquely wrong with her. It’s very dumb. Sorry Edited September 15, 2022 by cliche_display

cliche_display Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 Quote She’s released more material this year than she has since 2018/2019 including songs for RCA, Columbia, and Atlantic. Quote Do we expect her to campaign for her bookings and playlisting or should that be RCA and S10? I mean really. She’s put out material this year and we’ve heard leaked material. So what exactly are we complaining about? Seems more like a lack of backing than anything else. Artists rarely arrive at a hit without the proper exposure for their material. Just to piggyback on this reality: without proper backing it little matters if Normani uses Twitter and Instagram more regularly and/or if she uploads home videos singing in her backyard. (Which at this stage would probably get her roasted because she would have gone from touring with Ariana to doing home videos. And most of us see how much the internet loves to humble and mock black women, especially her). Her involvement on social media would not by itself get her on the charts. Not without a label backing her material by way of promoting it via radio, streaming playlists, arranging other high-profile exposure for it like award show performances, and the like. Her engagement would probably make fans happier (and that counts for something) but that's about all it would do if it wasn't followed by marketing dollars. I'll use Tinashe as an example. Tinashe fans please look away if you can't handle the underlying point being made. Tinashe had a top 40 hit once. 2014. When she was on RCA and RCA promoted her song to radio and gave it a video budget. AKA Tinashe hasn't had a noteworthy chart hit in 8 years. This is despite her touring, collaborating, doing festivals, posting regularly on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, engaging her fans etc. Still, Fair , the least of all Normani's RCA material has had more commercial success (at least it bubbled under) than any song Tinashe has released in the past three years since she's been touring, collaborating, doing festivals, posting regularly on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, engaging her fans etc. Why? Because Tinashe does not have major label support. So my point is this: Normani can only make a drop in the bucket by being more engaged online, but unless her record label and team releases and helps financially support her music, it will have a poor chance of cutting through the noise commercially, the same as every other artist who lacks decent backing. Normani's released multiple songs this year and everyone acts like she doesn't do music anymore. Isn't that proof of the point? Not to court controversy but there is literally nobody on Normani's team like this Quote "My role is to take her vision and run through brick walls to make sure the songs get every possible chance to succeed," says Camila Cabello's manager, Roger Gold No one does this for Normani and now that Tunji's left I fear it's even worse for Normani at RCA

It really doesn't matter if she releases a huge video ala WS/Motivation, as long as it doesn't get followed up with an album - nothing will change in her career. And I think even IF she follows up with an album, not much will change either besides the album flopping into oblivion. Normani has no hype left. Unless she suddenly decides to build a fan base consistently with internet content, TikTok videos, whatever she can come up with. Nothing will really change the place she's at right now. She doesn't have a fan base anymore. Y'all can delude yourselves with anything you want, but a mainstream artist does not get 100 opportunities to strike. They either get it right the first/second time or they simply don't ever again. This industry is very selective, as it should at times, because there's no reason to open doors for someone who isn't willing to give their all into their work. I say this looking at any career really - would you look foward to getting a promotion if all you did at your job was promise your boss you're going to deliver a great work and never actually does? Honestly I agree It’s a lazy comparison, childish as always, and ignorant. These people do not know what Normani’s situation is and yet they always find a way to blame her and side with exploitative labels and shitty managers because they’re angry she doesn’t use twitter to talk to them enough. That’s what it boils down to.
cliche_display Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 Norman could genuinely be an actual commercial flop (which she is not) and get more love from fans if she were just active on social media. Instead she only steps out for a check and that’s why her fans resent her and have joined the chorus of haters. She doesn’t manage her relationship with fans at all which IS in her control because I guess she thinks it’s not worth it. Again, maybe it isn’t if the most active people still flop because they’re not plastered over TTH...
cliche_display Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 The funny thing is people calling her a social media influencer while her fans simultaneously hate on her because she doesn’t use social media enough.
Camilitau.u Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 And it’s not only her but the whole music industry is changing as “mainstream” hits are quickly dying and moving into more niche genres thanks streaming. Actual hits released in 2022: As It Was Late Night Talking About Damn Time First Class Break My Soul Super Freaky Girl We Don't Talk About Bruno If you include smaller hits: Wait for U I Like You (A Happier Song) Bad Habit Hold Me Closer I Ain't Worried Barely succesful "hits": Bam Bam I we're talking English hits, is that it? 9 months in, and barely half of this list is recognizable to the casual listener.

Her graham norton slot got cancelled wild side top 14 With just a vma performance, don Julio mansion prIvate performance , savage x fenty show, radio tour, rap genius Motivation should have been featured in her earlier set lists but her team took ages to settle on something after LL blew up. checklist they pump faked, waves they barely promoted and by the time they forced motivation out all that LL promo was behind her.
