Can we finally admit Cheat On Me (with Ariana Grande) is not the best song on Chromatica?

It never was, only chart obsessed twinks claimed so

Not Gaga apparently having "too much control over the producers" now??? :ahh::rip: Girl, bye.

The problem with, and the most common complaint that has been around her latest album, is precisely the reduced amount of creative control that she chose to exercise as a producer compared to her previous albums and thus the missing trademark "Gaga" stamp baked into the production.

In fact, it's literally the ONLY album of hers where she has ZERO production credits across the board (except the interludes) :rip: which, let me be clear, doesn't mean that she was not involved at all in the production process, just not actively and significantly enough to warrant and give herself a production credit. And all her interviews post-release where she talks about being depressed and not being in the right headspace confirmed how much checked out she really was mentally while making it.

– GAGA RADIO Ep. 1

Gaga is an excellent producer with a very strong point of view and a very specific vision for what she wants her songs to sound and feel like. This is the same woman who once pushed a producer as generic as RedOne to churn out pop masterpieces one after another, to the point where his work with her completely eclipses everything else in his production discography by lightyears. The same woman who made underground/less-known producers like DJWS and Garibay famous overnight. The same woman who pretty much single-handedly produced songs like Venus and Shallow, with little to no external assistance. Let's not question what she brings to the table as a (co-) producer.

Instead, we should be advocating and hoping for Gaga to be exercising MORE control again, being in the right headspace free from her personal demons willingly wanting to create music and having free reins and being fully involved in every part of the creation process and enjoying that process for all her albums going forward, not LESS. That's when she's at her best and it shines through in her output - from the melodies to the lyrics to the vocals and most importantly, the production choices.

I agree.

I listened to her Apple music thing, but I completely forgot about that quote. It makes so much sense. How she's doing with depression and all that does have an effect on creativity and output, like I'm going through that now where I'm living life on autopilot. I paint and sketch as hobby, and I just lose the will to do anything remotely creative, or anything beyond the bare necessities/daily routine when I'm in a depressed state, so the fact that she even put out an album while feeling like that is impressive, and Chromatica still had that big ambitious feel to it whether people agree or disagree about its contents. (I personally thought the songwriting is getting stronger, there are just some tracks where it's like, she gave up and didn't push herself).

I just hope she can find a way out of the forest, and get to better times again. I hope she can heal and get her confidence back, which I feel like has been missing for a long time. Her spirit just seemed crushed for a while. I was listening to the Like a Virgin podcast recently (cultural podcast that is like a bitchier Las Culturistas), and they did a Gaga focused ep recently, and the way they talked about her seemed so sad, yet a lot more pessimistic POV than I have of her currently. The light has gone out of her a bit, and she is obviously weary, but at the end of the day she has a fighting spirit, and I do think they were being a bit much about her current state. Like, depression comes in waves, and she'll find her way. I think we are all missing her spark.

Look at Bloodpop/ Blood Diamonds’ credits and remove all of his work with TABS legend.  It’s pretty consistent and good.  His work with Gaga is honestly the main outlier.  We had the same problems with Mark Ronson and Tame Impala, both of which are amazing producers who made mediocre work with Gaga.  Stop blaming everything on her producers.

And how was the reception of Rina's last album? Didn't most fans dislike it and call it a step down after her debut? And let's remember that she did ASIB soundtrack with Mark and they also gave us classics like MR and DH from Joanne. I am not blaming everything on her producers but it has been known that she did not have any significant contribution to Chromatica as a producer and you can tell it. It lacks the Gaga element all of her other albums have, even C2C and L4S.

It’s so embarrassing how HMH was attached to TGM and still performed poorly. It was just not up to par I fear.

Gaga should release, she'll easily get a #1 unless she releases something akin to PIss or Stupid Noise

I hate you :deadbanana:

But yeah I agree. As a Gags/Ari hybrid, I was on cloud nine when it dropped and I still love it so much, but 911/Reslay/Babylon kinda eclipsed it for me.

Oh wow that was my top 3, but I think I’ve replaced Alice with ROM tbh. Replay and Enigma are top 2 though of course, in that order :sistrens:

Announcing this a few days after he passed away….. this is abusive, we all knew they waited for his death but omg at least wait a bit before announcing it

Well the reveal of the doc still happening was amongst a lengthy interview that happened today with Variety where other stuff was discussed, so I don’t think it was necessarily in poor taste

A documentary spanning ten years of Gaga's career with Tony? :duca: I am very excited about that.

The selfish stan in me also thinks this may be a shoo-in for an Emmy. :rip:

I know I’m gonna cry through the documentary

That is not what "abusive" means. This is coming from Tony's son, not some random. His son wants people to see his dad and remember him and his love for what he did for nearly 100 years.

Also, Danny did not put out, like, a press release. This was just a passing comment during an interview he did.

I can see your point, but I think it's a bit different for Tony - he'd been unwell a long time, so they've been able to prepare things, and since performing and singing were part of his life it makes sense they want to share this last project he'd had in the pipeline to celebrate him & his legacy.
