It sucks that Hollywood got hit by a pandemic and now a historic SAG-AFTRA/WGA joint strike for the first time in over 60 years just as Gaga began to solidify herself as an actress. Maybe GÁR truly is a harbinger of doom?

It was worth it to spend all that coin on Barbie marketing because Mattel will sell literally billions of dollars of dolls because of this movie. Joker 2 isn’t banking on toy sales, or at least not to this extent, so I wouldn’t count of the same degree of marketing for FaD.

They will be better off hitting the comic cons with previews and stuff… like how AHS does.

Not really, she managed to film a movie in the middle of a pandemic when there was full lockdown in italy and then the movie got released in the window before Omnicron happened managing to get a great box office result, she still managed to promote it and it still remained to this date the best R drama result since 2019, tones of projects were delayed or scrapped in that period.

The strike won't affect JFAD, the movie is wrapped since months with no urge to finish the movie quickly or delay, they had all the time to film with the right schedule, the strike won't affect it, it's gonna be over by the time it's gonna be released, it won't last forever, if anything all considered she has been lucky giving all those circumnstances in the movie department.

HOG was definitely impacted by Omicron. The news literally broke on HOG’s opening weekend. :rip:

It was for sure, but then again it could have been a much worse situation if it was released like one month later, not to mention worst scenarios like the movie being scrapped or postponed, it happened to tones of proejcts in that period, HOG managed to be filmed and released in the announced timing and having a good box office result in a difficult period, the industry knows it, that is why you still have media outlets comparing its box office result to new releases.

Until the movie started filming I was lowkey scared for a cancellation since they were postponing or deleting tones of events in that period in Italy, it went well all considered.

Missing the Oscar nomination was the only thing she has been unlucky with that project imo.

wish she filmed in Europe, nobody's singing chile

JFAD won't have the same marketing budget as Barbie simply because it doesn't need that level of saturation. It's the sequel of a $1B-grossing film, it already has an established brand and core audience. Joaquin as Joker is unarguably one of the most iconic roles and universally acclaimed acting performances of the last decade, and with Gaga added there's more name recognition and thus more organic buzz around it already. Though I'd argue that they're still going to want to pull out all the stops that they can because DC desperately needs a hit to fix its current image and with surefire bombs that are Blue Beetle and Aquaman in the pipeline, they're going to look to JFAD next year to maximize their profits. It also has a hefty-for-its-type $150M price tag as budget.

The most interesting thing about it is the demographic mix that they seem to be aiming for by casting a very wide net: R-rated Joker-Harley musical/crime drama/psycho thriller. This very unlikely blend pulls in so many disparate audiences. And while it being a musical will alienate some fans of the original, Gaga's addition to the film brings in new audiences (LGBTQ+, female, and even older) which as a chunk can be sizeable enough to offset the loss and make it a robust, four-quadrant -esque film if all the stars align perfectly. The first skewed heavily young and male, this actually has the potential for a more even split.

Either way, it's going to be a lot of fun to track. Can't wait. :gaycat:

I think the ‘worry’ commercially is this very basic branding  concept of ‘Wull going for x lose y’ which our fave said in 2014 she was ‘against’ in label meetings when they said ‘you have the gays so go for this now’. So basically will bringing the girls and gays to joker lose the audience it cultivated and grew with :gaycat4:

anyways if joker smashes i wonder how she will approach LG7. Like chroma again? Or something else. Also the OST potential. Whilst she’s tanking now on Spotify we at lease have things coming :hey:

Well if the soundtrack of Joker is full of covers and Jazz it won't do a lot

Dance The Night is having the chart performance HMH should’ve had if she released a song that wasn’t an unlistenable turd. Where are all the HMH apologists now?

Most of the tent pole film from WB of this year are likely to be rescheduled to next year (ex. Dune pt2) If that happens, JFAD will be released in 2025

Much of the marketing for Barbie came from MATTEL, not Warner Bros.

Anyway this is on TV tonight

I strongly doubt that they're gonna rescheduled JFAD.
