Chromatica is GaGa postmortem. Everything about it is a pathetic attempt at recreating an aesthetic that does not fit the artist in their current state. As much as I’d love Gaga to come out with something like Alejandro again, I must be true to myself and accept the fact that she’s not in that creative headspace anymore, she enjoys AC and Jazzz now.

 

Some delusionals may think whatever they want, the cold, hard, fact is that Gaga waited for the first opportunity to shelve this era and it was covid. She did not put full energy towards the promotion of the album, singles, interviews and performances. She let the album be completely watered down from its original heavy 90s house sound and let verses being cut to shorter the songs for streaming. All I’m saying is that the label mostly designed Chromatica as a way to promote her as a pop force again fearing she would lose an extensive part of her base thus compromising her future success with albums and tours.

Tea but "Rain On Me" was a necessary last hurrah for Dance-Ga and confirmation of the ASIB comeback, and a welcome addition to her canon of greatest hits

 

"Stupid Love" is also underrated with that glorious pre-chorus reminiscent of Eurythmics

 

And "Babylon" is also probably her most fun, creative pop moment since the BTW era

 

So yes, it was a half assed cynical attempt at appeasing the gays, but there were moments where the fire burned truly
