I thought the performance was cute, wish she went out with something better though 

The idol didn't give her any advantages. Nothing that she has performed is charting.

honestly I don't understand this fanbase nnnn. What were y'all expecting? Sing the lead single at idol finale? Announce the lead? We already know national tv like American idol is kinda useless in America to generate any streams or hype unless it's something like the Grammys, and especially Katy hasn't benefitted measurably from a national tv performance or announcement in a long time. Idol is mainly about middle America and that's what constitutes its audience. So nothing would have made a difference from that of a normal Twitter/social media announcement.

The problem is not the performance itself (which in any case is questionable since she has literally chosen the most hated song by the fandom on purpose) because the impact as you say is so minimal (it hasn't even re-entered in the iTunes US chart, same for the songs sung by the participants in the medley dedicated to her), but more the fact of continuing to do teasing without having anything concrete that is starting to get very boring

 

Spamming butterflies and 143 everywhere without any sense (a wmaw performance would NOT have needed all this) is making her look pathetic, and unfortunately that's a fact

 

I really hope that on Wednesday she's gonna do something, it's the last anticipated thing that remains to the fans, who are already quite tired after disappointments like the Met or this finale

For information: all convenient and relevant events for potential promo have ended (Grammy, BRIT, iHeart, MET Gala, American Idol, Coachella).

 

The next slot is the VMAs in August and September. The rest of the events are not rated to generate headlines or effects.

 

Overall, May and June are definitely not the best time to release a single or album. She can test the waters by releasing a promo single.

At the moment, this is the only reasonable explanation for why she shoves these symbols into all her speeches.

If nothing happens, then it's not clear what she means at all. 

Why would anyone expect anything from American Idol? Didn't we trash that show for years and she never promoted her new material apart from Daisies

If so much effort has been put into the music and visuals, then I hope they have a plan or something. Let's not make the kP6 era another Smile era. 

Hopefully she'll release the lead somewhere in the beginning of June.
