My summarised thoughts on the Idol performance / KP6 era buildup so far (that nobody asked for):

 

- I'm glad she didn't debut a new song on Idol. It's not a great promotional tool anyway, and attempting to launch a new era alongside Billie Eilish's album release wouldn't have ended well for her. There are already multiple Song of the Summer contenders, and let's be honest, a Katy Perry song isn't going to be in contention for that title in 2024 anyways.

 

- "What Makes a Woman" was a horrible choice for the performance. Irrelevant and unliked song, not compatible with the male performer to an extent they felt the need to change the words, and very short. "Teenage Dream" or "Wide Awake" would have been a much better send-off to her American Idol era, and reminded more people of songs from her they used to enjoy.

 

- '143' is a horrible potential album title. Nobody outside of the fandom will get it. Heck, even people within the fandom are still only just realising what it means (as evidenced in posts above). "I Love You" is such a common/weak phrase for an album title regardless. I would prefer something along the lines of 'Metamorphosis' or 'Monarch'.

 

- The teasing has gone on for far too long, but with nothing to show for it. At least when she was teasing Witness or Smile we had snippets of some songs, she revealed some track titles in interviews, etc. Literally outside of the butterfly theme, alleged sexual undertones, and a confirmed Lu Kala co-write, we have nothing confirmed by her directly.

 

- The best use of the American Idol finale would have been to at least announce something concrete. Announcing the album with a pre-order/pre-save link going live during the Idol finale would have been perfect. Media coverage would ensue, and she would have more time to build towards a good first frame on the charts, assuming the album is coming in late 2024.

 

- I don't think anything is coming on May 22nd/23rd. It's a weird day and if she didn't do anything on March 14th, clearly the dates aren't that symbolic for her.

Her MTV unplugged was amazing. Acoustic TOTGA was also a great addition. But all the new acoustic songs or acoustic remixes (daisies) from her aren't even close. She has changed the way she sings acoustic music for worse, the production is too simple… an acoustic album is just a big no-no at this point.

... All of these feel like they're from the same universe and then there's 143. I hate the fact that she is working with Dr. Luke but I'm not going to explain further then that.

 

 

I honestly have no hope that she is going to announce anything on the 22nd/23rd. Sure, it would be nice, but at this point, who knows?

An acoustic album would have been good in between PRISM and Witness eras. The second half of PRISM made it feel like that was the direction she was initially going to head in post-PRISM era. The problem is when Katy only releases a new album every 4 years at this point, nobody is going to want to wait 8 years between upbeat pop projects.

 

I don't know if anyone remembers, but CCMC actually made an unofficial 'PRISM: Acoustic Sessions' project with the official stems, it's quite nice. Might scratch that specific itch if anyone is still holding out for another MTV Unplugged type serve from her:
