It’s funny too, all the things they are upset at Dua for are things done by other artists now so they don’t have any reason to fume other than knowing Dua is the blueprint

I’m so tired of hearing that playlisting and radio support is ‘payola’ there are so many artists who receive the same consistent push as Dua. Just look at Justin, The Weeknd. Even Camila Cabello’s Romance is playlisted as hell but that isnt as succesful as FN simply because the music isn’t as good. But they just keep fuming at the mouth because she DOES succeed so they have to attribute her success to external factors :deadbanana2: it’s exhausting

Anyways, stream this DL1 bop today!

People are just mad that Dua, her team and label know how the industry works and co-sign on it to all just do their jobs. We are talking about commercial recording artists at the end of the day, not some indie artsy fartsy act.

The fumes about her Repackage strategy, which is a practise done for decades, streaming just mad it a 100x more lucrative to add material to albums because of SPS etc. but that isn't Dua's fault or fraudulent, it is playing the game and making as much profit as possible

They are just mad that duas 2 albums occupy 2 spots in the top5 most streamed albums by females of all time, with one being the most streamed female album of all time

I mean she clearly does have a fan base but it’s also obvious she is still heavily reliant on GP/casual listeners.

High debuts on Spotify and stuff are usually indicative of a strong fan base but doesn’t always result in longevity for those songs which Dua ends up having so :michael: Its all swings and roundabouts really.

I'd say Dua has a very healthy balance between fanbase and GP support rn. She's obviously garnered a fanbase with the FN era and literally everyone that's into pop music is perched for her new music. She's a household name for everyone under a certain age.

Literally no one else has a fanbase the size of Taylor's or BTS', and it was never in the stars for Dua to get a Gaga sized fanbase or something. Still, plenty of GP artists have done extremely well (Rih, Katy, heck even Adele could be seen as a GP artist) so there's nothing against that

Exactly!!

She has GP support & she also has a fanbase not as big as other girls

Exactly, and what she lacks in crazy rabid fans she makes up for with extremely well organised rollouts, quality music, dedication, hustle and vision so that the GP will keep being invested :michael:

I think Dua does a great job balancing her duties and responsibilities as a pop musician while taking time for herself. She recognizes where she can improve and tries her best to turn those weaknesses into strengths.

She is in the spotlight but not ever really for her relationships or other controversies. That may be deemed too careful or polished to others, but I just think there’s something very considerate of Dua. She kinda straddles the middle, but that is probably her personality anyways so is still authentic.

There is no real reason to compare her to people like Taylor or Gaga or Beyoncé or Katy or Adele, as they are of a different generation. Olivia and Billie and SZA have more sizeable fanbases, but I think she has a stronger core audience than, say, Doja. I also think Dua is doing a good job of expanding her brand to other realms that will give her longevity in the industry. And she will likely always have strong support in Europe.

Slightly unrelated to what's being discussed now but I have to say that the Katy Perry comparisons are really forced. She always gave love child of Kylie Minogue and Rihanna.

I'm still shocked so many stans are just like "yeah it's just okay" 3 days later and I'm forcing myself not to repeat it too much before I get tired of it dnndjdjs

Definitely not a Sweetest Pie situation where I was forcing myself to listen to it and hope it would grow on me.

ice spice just followed dua on ig. i think we’ll pass on a dance the night remix after hearing karma :coffee2:

I think the Katy comparisons come from Dua herself citing her as an inspiration + her come-up hapenning right after the Witness debacle. Eventually. ODHs took that narrative during the FN era and switched it into "she'll fall off any minute now!!11!!".

I agree with Kylie/Rih comparison. She's in that sweet spot of understanding what the gays want while still appealing to straight people.

Anywho, DTN is a cute song and I understand that's what the Barbie people wanted, but PLEASE, let's hope she was serious with that destroyed mirrorball. Enough disco. :rip: Hoping for some electronic/clubbier sounds on DL3.

I’m hearing DTN a lot on the radio these past few days so I’m hoping we should see the effects of that this week.
:gaycat5:

But if it smashes or not it will still have a permanent residency in my playlist this summer :gayalipacat3:

I haven't listened to this in quite some time and it sounds so fresh? How did this flop? The FBI should look into this! :celestial5:

The kii when butterflies have nothing to do with DL3 :skull:

JK, I think it will; but it's been so over-inundated the past 1.5 years that it'll almost be anticlimactic and obvious

It flopped because it’s literally awful. :rip: Sorry but it’s just extremely repetitive and boring. Would’ve been so much better without the Young Thug feature and Dua singing the 2nd verse + the bridge. Also a faster tempo whould’ve also helped. Hopefully this is a lesson for Dua to move on from Calvin. He’s past his prime in terms of production ideas (his latest songs/albums are just not it). There are so many great djs out there, Dua, find someone else for droplets.

is she doing a countdown for something with the butterfly emoji??

Ngl I have doubted that butterflies will be apart of DL3 considering they have already kinda become part of her aesthetic for a while now and Dua seems to closely guard her upcoming work to not spoil the surprise, but we'll see

Right like :deadbanana: at this point my guess is her song will be super under the radar like CTHU vs. anything that takes Viz away from DTN or DL3
