Its video it's also so interesting, not only the theme which was kinda bold for her at the time but the whole aesthetic. It's very different from everything she used to do. Issa underrated gem.

I really don't get the obsession with CC's current chart performance.

 

I fundamentally DO NOT believe that Bey doesn't care about sales. She does, because she + her team + the label did all the things to ensure a "certain" level of success.

 

With that said though, CC HAS factually tick-boxed pretty much all of the standard "successful Beyonce era" touchpoints:

 

* #1 Debut, Keeping Her Record Intact

* Big Opening Week Sales

* #1 Single, This Time The Lead

* Multiple Top 10 Singles

* Firmly Integrated Her Into the Modern Era of Consumption (Streaming)

 

It goes without saying that there was/is room for it to "feel" more impactful. But when stripping out the stan emotion and being actual-and-factual, the era is a success. Not her biggest, not her weakest, but a success nonetheless. 

 

I think we ought to buckle up as a stan base because I can see her releases become like this intermittently. Every now and again, a true moment ala Rennie will happen, but when not that it will be releases that tick-box the expectations and essentially are transitional projects til the next thing. 

 

She's soft-scaling back on us. And irksome as that is, I'd always much rather it this way (with her still selling and being Queen) than her flopping or legit "not caring" in the way some folk insist. She cares (especially for the optics/regality of her reign), but is pairing those moves with scaling back.

I don't know, ppl are weird. 
 

Ppl act as if Bey has always been a chart topping phenomenon, when she always had front loaded success. She's already accomplished her usual chart run, continued her 2020's string of #1's singles and has played her cards right without having a huge video available for streaming. 
 

She's never played into the charts, her selling point has always been a well crafted album, videos and live performances. She's seen she only needs one to get the job after creating a trilogy for half a decade (so it's pretty clear she'll only be releasing albums for now on). 
 

It may be new fans or old fans caught up in the Stan Wars, mixed with the lack of commercial appeal months after the release, but this is not as big of a deal.
