With Adele's branding I fear she'll only get stronger as she grows older :jonny4:

The truth of this omg! A timeless and classic artiste :fan:

But your original post was in response to someone rightfully stating that Adele is bigger than Taylor. NOT who’s generated the most revenue. The two are not at all the same.

For example, the  X-men franchise is not bigger than Titanic simply because it grossed slightly more from 13 movies compared to the single film that is Titanic. The fact that McDonald’s releases new meals more often and sells way more “product” than Apple does not mean McDonald’s is bigger than Apple.

just because Taylor releases, re-releases, publicizes, bundles, and tours way more than Adele does not mean she’s anywhere close to as big as Adele.

No, what the industry cares about is value of investment. Taylor is, by definition, less profitable than Adele. The amount of return from investing in one Adele album is far greater than the five Taylor Swift albums it would take for Tay to near comparable numbers. This is because the “industry” has to invest in five more promotional campaigns, five albums worth of expensive music videos, radio deals for five eras, five times the production costs, five times the price of travel for promo, five times the photo shoots, five times the man hours, effort and expense just to match the “revenue” from one single Adele album.
Adele is more valuable to the industry because she promises a much bigger bang for your buck.
Once again, the x-men franchise might have accumulated a slightly larger “revenue”, but it has made much less actual money for the studio than Titanic. This is because box office ticket sales, just like your “cspcs”, don’t factor in the income that remains  after accounting for all expenses, debts, additional income streams, and promotional/operating costs. That’s why “the industry” signed Adele to the biggest female record deal of all time. Why wasn’t Taylor’s newly signed deal comparable?

Regardless, “the industry” valuing Adele more  is not why Adele is definitively the bigger artist. The fact that she is far bigger with the general population around the globe is why she’s bigger. A far bigger percentage of her singles become certified hits, each of her albums dwarf Taylors.

Did you even read the Forbes article you posted? That’s the one and only source for these unsubstantiated range and they had to issue this amendment right there at the end:

“UPDATE: a representative from Universal responded, saying, “The reporting in this article is entirely inaccurate,” but would not offer specifics.”

Looks like Forbes remains just as unreliable as when they falsely claimed Kylie Jenner was a billionaire.

Universal has NEVER released details of the deal and rather contacted Forbes to tell them the article is not correct. There is no reason they wouldn’t want all those “record breaking” headlines if the deal actually did break Adele’s record. This is why no reputable publication has spread these made up numbers, and you had to us a dailymail owned “inews” tabloid and a taste of country as “sources”. :dies:

meanwhile, Adele’s “record breaking” deal was covered by the BBC, the Guardian, fortune, Newsweek, nme and your very own Forbes, this time with no “UPDATEs” that prove the numbers are completely fabricated.

Now asking the real question, is Adele bigger than Madonna/ most successful female artist ever since she has bigger average than Madonna?

Madonna would ABSOLUTELY be pulling these numbers if Like a Virgin/True Blue/Like a Prayer were in the streaming era.  But too bad they're not so you really can't compare them.

This is why we are comparing their pre-streaming units.

Madonna doesn't have an era with almost 50M units. Adele has. Adele also has bigger average per album.

That was Lostcause's logic. And according to this logic, Adele is bigger than Madonna too, doesn't matter how much units she moved.

That's why he ignored that part and refused to answer...

no one is bigger than Madonna.  She literally tops EVERY "biggest musicians of all time" lists for females.  And you know that's true.  She's had a 40 year career.  And again, you can't compare an artist's peak in 1986 to an artist's peak in 2021.  What's next?  Is Adele bigger than Elton John?  Elvis?

Yes, like units of 21. What we were talking about had nothing to do with recent streaming record.

Yes, that's the point. If you re-read the thread or at least Lostcause's posts, you will see i am not the one who goes against that... :dies:

But yes, anyone but MJ. :dies:

And if 30 is at all comparable to the success of 21+25, her only peer “success” wise will be Michael Jackson, who declined after his first two smashes, and “only” had three albums in the realm we are  talking (thriller, bad, dangerous).

Adele is on a different playing field. Nobody mentioned on this site is playing with her. Where they may release hit albums, she serves albums and singles back to back that aren’t just hits, but instant classics and legendary.

:dies:

so Like a Virgin/True Blue/Like a Prayer aren't classic albums and Like a Virgin, Material Girl, Crazy For You, Into the Groove, Live to Tell, Papa Don't Preach, Open Your Heart, La Isla Bonita, Like a Prayer and Express Yourself aren't classics? haha

Madonna has waaaaaay more classics than Adele and more classic albums.  This comparison is just silly.  I like Adele and this new song, but she's not Madonna.  No one is.

And they updated with another source. Not you cutting the part you don't like on the purpose :deadbanana4:

UPDATE: This article initially stated that Swift’s guarantees were worth close to $100 million; a representative from Universal responded, saying, “The reporting in this article is entirely inaccurate,” but would not offer specifics. A different source has since provided the $200 million figure.

Even the title clearly says - "Updated, 200M"

And even if it worths less, Taylor didn't only agree with money but they also offered her to own her masters + the label will distribute some of the money from that sale to all of the artists it represents, “non-recoupable", thanks to her which was part of the deal as well.

Btw, what do you think about Adele being bigger than Madonna which makes her the biggest female artist ever in this case?

So you can’t read. Got it.
Universal didn’t offer specifics, in fact they explicitly shut down Forbes projections and stone walled them. Forbes already proved that their sources are worthless in the first place, seeing as universal had to deny their claims, so there is no reason to believe another source not connected to UMG :toofunny2:. Not to mention the countless other fraudulent claims by Forbes over the years, this is why reputable publications don’t touch Forbes “sources” and always corroborate any claims by the publications themselves. So once again, a completely unrelated source they won’t name that isn’t the record label is throwing out another random number. If she brokered a bigger deal than Adele, Universal would have milked that headline for all its worth. Instead, they shut down the conversation and contacted Forbes to deny the article. That’s why nowhere will you find a headline claiming Taylor signed the biggest female deal, because there is no proof anywhere.

21 was bigger than any Madonna era... really any era with the possible exception of Thriller.

Yes Universal shut down the claims about the 100M deal, then another source provided 200M deal. :toofunny3:

You are acting like Universal shut down the 200M claims and then someone come with the same number...

I am not saying it is exactly true, but it doesn't make sense to say it can't be right because first source was wrong either.

Also why would Taylor, her team or UMG have to share some lucrative deal with the world? She doesn't brag about things like that, it is against her image. She was highest grossing artist of 2016 and 2019 with 170M and 190M respectively but she didn't even have a cover for Forbes or share about it in social media.

We know about Adele's deal because her manager shared about it.

All in all, with or without deal, i am pretty sure she is quite profitable since she will be top2 most consumed artists of the year for third consecutive year since she signed her deal.

But i guess that doesn’t count due to profit etc. thing, doesn't it...

Easy On Me is already bigger than any fraudulent #1 by BTS. BTS could spend 100 weeks at #1 and the GP would still not know the song.:rip:

End ha!!

From October 2021 to December 2022, more records will be broken by Adele. This prediction doesn't even need Abhigya Anand to confirm.
