Nightmare bombed. Why?

It probably bombed because of the chorus. It's so disjointed from the rest of the song and incredibly uncatchy. It just ruins whatever flow being built up. On another note, I think a lot of y'all were fooled by how nice the visuals were. It's not great by any means. And everyone calling it rock just makes me think y'all don't know what rock music sounds like :deadbanana2: She's singing over an 808/trap beat in all of her verses. Her throwing a few drums and screaming out the chorus doesn't make it a rock song :skull:

Gaga literally went #1 with a soft rock song this year. GP want Bruce Springsteen type of rock music, not angsty emo rock

Shallow is a ballad that had a bit of a rock influence, and I wouldn't say it's something the GP want as it is a very exceptional case of success, you should know that as an Avril Lavigne fan. I do believe Halsey's song is the kind of noisy rock that will never ever be famous again and that she can do better though.

Shallow is definitely more rock than Nightmare is, as user Pink Matter pointed out above your post. Also pendelum swings around, it will come back one day, just not anytime soon. No one thought 70s inspired music would smash, yet Lana Del Rey became successful. No one thought jazz influenced music would smash in 21st century, yet Amy Winehouse happened. No one thought slow ballad would smash in an era of electro dancepop craze, yet Adele happened. One right song at the right moment can make a difference. That's why another soft rock song Sign Of The Times is still doing amazing on streaming, getting half million views on Youtube everyday, it has longevity. Twenty One Pilots made it big, Imagine Dragons made it big. Someone just needs to find the right sound, at least Halsey is trying by experimenting with angsty music that is not currently hot, thinking it might stick for being different than anything else. It's a creative risk that can either fail or stick. When Shallow was released, nobody on ATRL thought it would smash, they all called it flop for being so different than anything, and yet it is a record breaking track.
