If Mediabase doesn't do anything, especially after the last 2 weeks of blatant fraud/payola on the Country airplay format, I'm going to have a tough time taking their updates with any credibility going forward.

 

I'm okay with Mediabase only #1's as long as the song is at #1 on the Friday or Saturday update. What isn't okay is a one-day #1 and stealing the #1 on the published update only to fall out of the spot the following day. That's what you call fraudulence and blatant payola.

 

I'm not sure if these last 2 weeks are extreme outliers or if this is how it's going to be from now on. But if this becomes the norm, I might stop recognizing the Mediabase #1 altogether (or better yet, just recognize the song that was #1 on Friday/Saturday as the #1, instead of the published update).

If MB moves its day, then labels will simply change their max spin days. BB changed to audience & days but obviously plenty of frauds still hit #1. 23 was 2024s most obvious example. Scotty McCreery's 2022 In Between was probably the worst I remember in BB. 

 

The charts should use a measure where songs that gain >10% in a max spins/audience effort for #1 have gains =/>5% the previous week. Or anything over 10% is thrown out as fraudulent airplay. The song would at least go T3 guaranteed as consolation. This would even out airplay growth to make it more consistent with other formats.
