He has left behind six children. On top of the album's lack of success, the report said he had struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for years. He was also abused at some point in his life. Chris Cornell's suicide seem to have played a role too. He and Cornell were very close.

Why the LP rise? 

"In the End" is topping iTunes tonight, and rightfully so.  So sad, LIVING THINGS was awesome to me when it first came out and I was obsessed with it, so nostalgic. They have some of my favorite songs ever so this news is so sad. "Numb", "Heavy", and "Crawling" will go top 10 I bet

If you watch this interview from about 20:00 until the end, he talks about his emotional struggles and how they wrote their most recent album about it. It's very tragic to watch after he's passed away (and it was only uploaded 7 weeks ago).
