It’s been charting since January. I live in Los Angeles. I’ve been hearing it all over radio since January/February. The song blew up in April yes, but it was already charting for three months before Bieber remix 

Despacito already surpassed Bailando (by Enrique Iglesias) in Latin America at least as the biggest latin pop song of all time and it's still going, wow...

The song is getting really big updates so it might be possible. Her team did really good job - the song didn't leak before the official release and they put it only on iTunes and Spotify; no audio on YouTube.

yes. All 1D solo singles went #1 so far but Just Hold On, Like I Would and Still Got Time (as lead artist)

It's funny how just by looking at iTunes we can see that's there's more Demi/Miley hybrid stans out there than Demi/Selena, since Miley is the one gettin' the bigger boost from Demi's release.

Eh, but Despacito's strength is going to continue to weaken over time so I don't think that comparison is really accurate for all songs.
