  1. 😭😭😭😭 I know. Sadly. Still love her tho.
  2. Cause no one cares lol. It's sad,but that's the LITERAL truth. Pop is deemed a white people genre - especially amongst women. Tinashe could drop Super Love and they will still call it R&B because of the colour of her skin. And she's light skin. Pop can't digest black/POC women for some reason - not easily. For example Bree Runway is a POPSTAR. Who has so much talent and potential. Where is Bree???? To the general public a black female pop star doesn't exist outside of Beyoncé//Rihanna. That's what they've allowed and deem enough for "us" I mean billboard called Raye an R&B artist ffs. for the amount of Kesha,Katy,Gaga,Britney,Xtina,Demi,Selena, and Mileys we have one Beyoncé and one Rihanna. on top of that - it's like AHS it's like there can be only one supreme at a time. i think what makes it worse is the pivot off of black culture - I love Tate - but - you can hear the Ying Yang Twins / Timbaland / Danja / Ester Dean influence all over Sports Car. And they will never give those artists the white package - black artists dont get their flowers outside awards, write ups and conversations. If we acknowledge and award them - they will shut up - about not being pushed. This is such a nuanced conversation - I can't type everything - but I hope that what I'm saying is being translated. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that has a HUGE part to play in why we see lots of false starts. The only true push I've seen that's stuck is Doja.and even she is being faded out despite having an extremely successful pop album, pop hits and great pop record with Vie. "wE dOnT kNOW hOW to mARKET you."
  3. I think Kiss is my fave, but this edit!!! WOW!!!!!!
  4. This is insane, because it's their song. In SA here this is a classic.
  5. Like: Bb Talk Bang Me Box Space Boots 1 Sun Tangerine SMS Rooting For My Baby Hands In The Air Get lt Right Twerk (This is a sneak)
  6. Think she really remains one of my faves! I loved Something Beautiful and ESV. But will she ever top Dead Petz. I actually need a Dead Petz x Bangerz.
  7. I mean sales do not always equate to impact…in today's times - visibility, clicks, virality, impact and influence does. Also Charli travels between Main Stream Media // and Niche Indie spaces - successfully so. But still one of the few pop culture moments in the 2020s. There are very few actually. And also Taylor and Gaga are legacy acts to me - legacy act fan bases are very different. Many artists post 2013/2015 actually don't have similar fan bases to pre-that time acts. I think there are few with D*E HARD FAN BASES THAT ARE HUGE Radio // Tour // Buying CDs era of music was extremely different. Imagine having like 10 women in music - we were tunnelled to love (which we do - they make/made great music) vs being in a climate with 200 artists all interchanging all the time ,all seeking a viral moment - flash pans essentially and still having a worldwide cultural moment. That is actually equivalent to The Fame // 1989 eras - just in modern music. Do you know how many artist were/ are trying to recreate brat? Not sure if that makes sense. And if it doesn't that's okay too. ❤️❤️❤️
  8. I've sat with this and had a few listens and - I kinda get the reaction. It's not that it's a bad album - the music is okay. But that's the exact problem. I think firstly when your debut is that great! And then you have a really GREAT ep with tunes like Mr Media and In my opinion I loved Bliss - I never get the negativity towards it - it sets high expectations. On top of all of that you name an album A*Pop and as an artist who has been boxed into simply the Afro category - now dropping songs that seem to lead towards producing a more POPcentric ERA - to prove you're more than just "AFROPOP//AFROBEATS." And then most of the songs are chill midtempos that don't really produce any massive pop choruses - it's confusing. The tracklist ing doesn't help. She essentially Radically Optimised herself -maybe not even on purpose - but when I think modern day pop - we think Sabrina,Tate,Billie,Addison - really big choruses or if not that super hypnotic ones - which Tyla has been capable of. Overall it's not a bad album - the marketing and the way she spoke about it - really didn't help the album
  9. okay wait! If you don't like this album - it's because it's very South African - I haven't listened to it full. Just skimmed here and there. But it's literally a South (A)frican-Pop album. Like - it's GREAT!!!!! And I think if you not well verse in SA music you might not get some of these I cannot lie. But for me! Once I fully listen I think it would be a great listen nonetheless
  10. Tyla is so funny. Cause Fairytale is literally a CLASSIC here in South Africa - her song is actually a cover of the original! Which is a BOP! Like it's a staple in SA.
  11. Artistry and following your gut won. Honestly,to me,she's never followed any trends and that worked in her favour.
  12. Can't be tamed is sending me - but yes - very Circle the God,God of Me and I would say it even reminds me of the pop hooks of One of the boys
  13. This made me giggle, but I think it could be the best take here - She's really polarizing - even to herself, but that's what I like about her! She wants some sort of ownership to the degree of fame and acclaim, which is sadly not possible. I think she would be happy with a somewhat middle ground of - I can have a hit song, that critics love, but an album that does Top20,but still be niche - She's never in the middle, always either or. I think she struggles to move in that space. Making art is tough, and I feel for her, because I think her music this year, including Withering Heights, is a lot more deep and intricate as a whole vs Brat, which was deep in a personal and confessional sense, but shallow musically in terms of sound. I personally love most of what she does - and I've been a fan since 2013 - I wish her the best for real. It can't be easy to be in polarizing positions constantly
  14. I haven't loved 99% of her work post surprise. And I don't know???? I think she's so talented. But everything else has been so - okay. Like we know she can sing and perform. But she's at her best as a maximilist! Out there is where she shines. will give this a spin tho!
