When I think of the popular artists on atrl like Gaga, Rihanna, Taylor, Beyonce etc, to me they are generally all great (with one glaring exception). Without factoring in commercial success, do you think the main girls are all similar and comparable? Or is your fave's music significantly better? I think most of us agree that the girls who are not yet MPGs are a tier below, but do you have a hierarchy of best/worst MPG as well? This is not about the objective truth and icon/legend status but your personal preference, mainly in regards to music but you can factor in talent and personality etc if you wish.

No. Most of them make albums that don't move me.

 

Mariah Carey & Janet Jackson are my favorite 'MPGs'. Basing this off discography. 

At the end of the day it's pop music and it's all subjective, I definitely think people shouldn't be too pretentious (them and their fans), nobody should act like they're doing anything groundbreaking in 2025, everything has been done already.

Someone like Madonna is clearly not on the same level as Sabrina or Billie.

"Are main pop girls equal?" and "Do you like most main pop girls equally?" are two completely different questions; and to both of them, the answer is of course no. 

No each one of the MPGs u mentioned  excel in certain things and are arguably known bcos of it 

Bey: performing skills

Tay: writing

Gaga: performance art

Rih: likability/hits

and that's why they are the main pop girls of our time

Appreciate the positivity of OP towards all pop girlies since they get a lot of heat here every day but the answer is no, both objectively and subjectively... 
 

I'm voting kinda sorta.

The only pop albums that made a dent in my listening history the last 30 days are Gaga's Mayhem and Ava Max's Don't Click Play. So I'll use them as an example. These artists are absolutely not equal.

 

But when ignoring everything and narrowing it down to strictly music, do I understand how pop fans in particular who claim to love pop music are able to completely dismiss either of them while they listen to music that is from the same kind of soundscape? Are they really that different?

 

Do I understand how a group of people can listen to Britney's Blackout and view it in such a high regard but then at the same time drag Christina's Bionic?

Or how the same people can rave about Gaga's ARTPOP but laugh about Katy's Smile?

No, not really. They're really not all that different sonically.

 

They're all doing the same thing, making pop music. Intended to be mass marketed and consumed. Mostly using the same chord progressions and driving beats with heavy emphasis on catchy hooks, earworm choruses and relying in some ways on production.

Yeah, even if they're MPG they're not the same. There are tiers.
