Barbie. Posted August 30 Posted August 30 In true misogyny fashion, there is a new victim on stake being dogpiled for hurting ppl's feelings - Ms Blake Lively I thought it'll be fab to revisit the hate train from the last victim almost 4 months later which was Ms Jennifer Lynn Lopez, share our thoughts n feelings then & now, whether its changed since then or remained the same. I happen to think the hate was ridiculous then and it just further validated the harsh reality that women must be submissive, agreeable & modest to be universally tolerated by the media & it's pointless to go against the grain n expect solely respect & adoration. The interaction that started it all: Some of my musings from the clip: She was a co-host of the night so that alone must be stressful She was in a custom couture gown that's unmistakably covered in jewels so that whole situation is uncomfortable n heavy paired w 6 inch pumps She's being assisted up the stairs where she's asked a simple question n gave a simple answer Poor overactive imagination was wasted on this 2 seconds encounter, I still can't fathom why. Did she miss the perfectly obvs gimmick to be ~relatable~ by not knowing who she was wearing followed by an awkward, embarrassed laugh? or follow up her initial answer asking the reporter what she was wearing too? This vid also had a few panties in a bunch (on TikTok), stating she was a fckn c--t for allowing her personal assistant to do their job on a set of a movie STOP HATING ON B-----S, UR NOT EVEN DOING IT RIGHT!
MusicIsMyMaster Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Leave Jennifer alone ffs, the woman is admired by her peers, has done nothing but spread love and compassion. Created a project about being able to love yourself and did it with all her heart. Close thread. 2 2
Whore of Babylon Posted August 30 Posted August 30 (edited) one of the most egregious and manufactured smear campaigns in recent memory. Edited August 30 by Whore of Babylon 2
Josh Posted August 30 Posted August 30 I never bought the "hate train" against JLo, it felt forced to me like the GP and Hollywood was bored and they picked a random target out of a hat and JLo's name was the one they chose 2

Big Bad Wolf Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Be serious. She didn't receive that much backlash for that carpet moment. She received backlash because rumors had been swirling for months and months that her and Ben were on the rocks so the album and film dedicated to their relationship felt very forced and inauthentic. J.Lo gravely miscalculated how much people care about Bennifer, and it was a mishap to plan an entire era and promotional campaign around their relationship. I think now that they are getting divorced and she is no longer trying to force it, people are giving her more grace. It's not like Ben Affleck has stans. 4

Dolce Vita Posted August 30 Posted August 30 (edited) i think the criticism she received were all mute points honestly. the stuff about her using the bronx as a crutch for her brand when it's convenient. the deli order thing. the rude diva accusations. almost every a-lister to some capacity probably acts the same way jlo does and has a PR'd image that they try to sell people but they just do it better so it's not as obvious or they get away with it because they're perceived to be more likeable. It's so boring, why can't we rally up some hate towards these useless men instead of waiting for a sexual abuse allegation to begin 5 minutes ago, alexrex said: To be fair , Jlo can't sing Fair enough
Khamis Posted August 30 Posted August 30 (edited) You missed a big one that started it….. "ham and cheese on a roll and an orange drink. IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW" it's the IYKYK that was the nail in the coffin bc literally no one knew Edited August 30 by Khamis 1

Reginald Posted August 30 Posted August 30 ? Maybe I misunderstood things, but wasn't the JLO discussion started by people pointing out that all of her hit songs were sung by other artists? I remember the actual vocalist posting TikToks explaining her side of the story. These are great songs, and I enjoy some of JLO's discography, mind you.
STMG23 Posted August 30 Posted August 30 It was not forced but it was a lot because she was in the middle of an era that represented everything that people don't like about her. 1
Trash Posted August 30 Posted August 30 It may be the people I surround myself with, but not a lot of people I know (Including myself) like her, so it didn't seemed forced to me. It may have seemed like a lot because people found out a lot about her on twitter threads, but I don't think it was bandwagon hate for the sake of it, but the fact that a lot of it came from her alleged attitude and using other people's vocals.

OT: I don't have a horse in this race tbh. Although I did feel that the sudden backlash against her seemed a bit exaggerated and almost... manufactured?

Rihinvention Posted August 30 Posted August 30 (edited) I think the bandwaggoning was a bit excessive at times, but overall, I actually thought it was well deserved and very overdue lol. I also think that labelling it sexist or ageist lacks a lot of nuance. Women are capable of being sh*tty people too, and old people don't automatically deserve respect. I actually think one of the reasons why they're more frequently the subject of these conversations is just because women and gay men care about celebrity and pop culture. We're also more communicative when it comes to noticing poor behaviour, and we often see people we know in this demonstrated behaviour. I enjoyed it tbh, and I hope she continues to fail. The point here is the majority would like for a sh*tty woman's head on a stick whereas a man can be sh*tty in peace.

That's not why people were dragging her nonstop. It was due to a horrible album campaign, low sales, and a canceled tour, all while promoting her on the rocks relationship. People saw through the facade. That's all. Now, she's literally being praised by the same people who dragged her.

I think when men get cancelled, it's for much more extreme behaviour (and don't get me wrong, those men totally deserve to get cancelled) but when it's run-of-the-mill rudeness and arrogance, e.g. Hugh Grant, that just doesn't take off on celebrity blogs. I think we need to look at the biggest consumers of this content, because I feel like the majority of straight men don't give a sh*t until it reaches a point of being a massive meme on social media. If it's most women initiating these conversations about J.Lo and Blake Lively, then is it internalised misogyny? I feel like most women would say, "what? No. Of course not. Poor behaviour is just poor behaviour. Rude people are just rude people." It's easy to call it "sexism" when we're analysing the subject of the criticism alone, and then people can write all these think-pieces about how sexist it is. But who is creating and demanding this content? Mostly women. Again, most of them would probably say "well…if you don't treat people with respect, you shouldn't cry sexism when we call you out on it."
