What's with people announcing singles weeks before they're due to drop. I guess it's to get as many pre-saves as possible but most people will forget by the time it comes round.

He is still on Capitol / Republic, yes.

these single announcements many weeks before the actual release are heavily reminding me of the pre-2010s days when a song would premiere weeks/months before it would actually become available to buy

This is fine.. definitely much better than his previous work 

The sad part is that his music is actually quite good (at least the collabs with DJ's). It's his persona that is tanking everything. The f-boy stuff is embarrassing, the tone-deaf belief that he was the leader of 1D, the seemingly absent parenting. He needs some rehab on his reputation.
