bad and uninspired sampling is out of control. sampling however has been around for a long time

Yes, executives as a whole really have noooo idea what's cool and what's not. They see 1 thing going right and decide to replicate 100x times as IF it was possible to achieve the same result (we're seeing that all around the arts industry). I honestly can think of so many sounds and genres that would work nowadays but what we get is a bunch of songs doing terrible samples. Executives are against originality and criativity. 

No, every decade has sampling in it. Hell, sampling is a key part of music, especially pop music. Currently sampling is used far less than it was in the 90s and early 2000s.

I think it's only starting to bug people because the samples have gone from the underground/unknown creative incorporations of the past to now very well-known songs being directly copy-pasted into songs for nostalgia factor, i.e. using them as a direct rip-off in choruses (e.g. I'm Blue, Big Energy, First Class, Make My Day, My Head & My Heart, etc.).

 

I don't have problems with sampling at all. But if it's the case of copy/paste for nostalgia cash grabs, then i'd rather listen to the original almost all of the time.
