Do you have Tinnitus?

Recommended Posts

So since Sunday I been having this annoying buzzing sound in my head. It's quite low and I only hear it when it's quiet. Google says it might be Tinnitus - a condition where you hear sounds in your head / ears that don't exist. It also seems to be a lifelong condition for most people and 15 -20% of people have it :rip:

I have booked an appointment with a hearing specialist but the earliest appointment I could get was for next week. Hopefully it turns out to be some infection or ear wax or something and not Tinnitus.

Tinnitus doesn’t have to permanent! I’ve had issues with my ears since I was a baby and had two bursts of Tinnitus that were triggered by stress and other factors. It could be a sign of something else. I ended up needing hearing aids for example.

it’s good you made an appointment!

Yes. It's weird that I'm not even sure when it started, I also noticed it when I was in a really quiet room.

I get the feeling it started when I had a cold and blew my nose too hard which popped my eardrums, because I don't listen to loud music and I haven't been to any concerts or clubs in a while :clown:

I was at a pretty loud concert 3 weeks ago :dancehall:

I even told my friends I wanna leave coz it was too loud but they wanted me to stay so I stayed :rip:

It's weird that I am having the buzzing in my head 2 weeks after the concert though...

I'm 100% sure I do. There's been a constant ringing sound in my ears for about 2 years now. It's not too bad but when it's very quiet it gets annoying. Pretty certain I got it from years of listening to music at max volume. :gaycat6:

and there's virtually 0 medication that actually helps with it. like the other user said it gets way worse when stressed, but for me its also when very tired either physically or mentally. ive been to doctors for years and no one could even pin point the cause, nothing. i just live with it, i forget its there sometimes because you just get so used to hearing it. now that the thread reminded me i have it i cant ignore it :chick3:

i'm not a doctor so i'm not sure if it's related - my tinnitus started like 24 hours after the concert :jonny:  to you - and everyone else reading this - please buy hearing protection for concerts/clubs/anything... it's totally worth it

thank you :heart2: hopefully you dont have it and it can get sorted out. do all the kinds of hearing tests and stuff that's available! the worst part of it was the beginning, the first two years or so, it was very very hard getting used to the fact that ill never be able to hear "silence" ever again and some nights i couldnt even fall asleep

Not officially since ARTPOP Act II was never released, but I have heard it on YouTube.

yes! on my left ear due to an explosion sound like five feet away from me :deadbanana2:

it is so annoying, it’s just a small frequency that never stops, that’s why I listen to music every day even if it’s just on low volume

I have a bit of tinnitus but i... find it kind of soothing? I know it's awful for others but I guess my brain wants me to enjoy it yBJD6Tg.mp4

Oh thanks for letting us know about it sisters. I never knew loud concerts or noises can trigger it.

You learn something everyday

I probably/should have bc of constant exposure to loud noise (I blare music at max volume like 12hrs a day) but I haven't noticed it yet:rip:

I sometimes have it for a few seconds but I juststick my finger in the ear and wiggle a bit and it's gone. I didn't have it in months. Sports made it stop (in my case. I was laying around like a lazy bastard lol)

i do too... after years of being careless going to concerts without proper protection. i was too late to realize what i was doing wrong. ALWAYS use protection besties

Been waiting for somebody to make a thread about this, I found out recently that I do :rip:

It’s a bit of a revelation for me because I thought it was normal for everybody to hear some degree of ringing when it’s quiet… that shows how long I’ve had it and I have no idea when it started because I really just thought it was a normal thing. I was experiencing a lot of headaches and started talking to somebody about it and then they say they didn’t hear anything… and then it all fell into place. What’s annoying is now that it’s been exposed and I’m aware of the issue, the sound is much more prevalent for me.

It’s not that surprising in my case because I would go to concerts and clubs with loud music, use headphones to listen to music a lot every day and already have quite sensitive ears that are prone to getting infected… so yup.

I need to book an appointment too but the reality for me is that it’s far gone at this point. I’ve just accepted the situation and the sound. :dancehall3:

So I am good now. I think i have had very minor tinnitus for years now since just like @fountain I can't remember ever hearing absolute silence. I also thought that it was normal for everyone to hear a bit of ringing when it's very quiet:rip:

However due to a loud concert and the flu afterwards my ears acted up a bit and I heard the ringing much louder for like 2 weeks. Now I am back to baseline and only hear the ringing when I am focusing on it and when it's very quiet.

I am never attending any loud event without ear protection though :giraffe:

Omg I’m kinda glad to hear this was the case for somebody else too because when I found out I was so confused and felt so oblivious :rip: welp, at least we are not the only ones who didn’t know :dies:

I feel like mine possibly fluctuates too, but I’m not sure if it’s just my mind playing tricks sometimes. It feels as though it’s been louder lately, but it might be that it’s just more prominent in my mind because I am now more aware of it. I guess it was easier to ignore before because I thought it was just a normal thing, but now that I know it isn’t it’s more noticeable and stands out :chick1:

yes but it's very subtle, got it after an ear infection
