I guess the current strategy is to pander to the existing audience or to the one adjacent to it because there's no way she's going mainstream with that sound, and it seems to be mostly working.

Yes, absolutely. It's worth listening to start to finish at least once to experience the entire story. It's difficult to say what I would rate it out of 10 because it feels outside of that; it's her personal experience and she did a fantastic job expressing herself. I don't know that I would revisit it as a whole again immediately though because it was so painful, but Relapse, ***** Palace, 4chan Stan, Nonmonogamummy, Just Enough, Let You W/In, and Fruityloop are all songs I would revisit.

I didn't resonate with No Shame at all and Sheezus wasn't very cohesive or conceptual so to me this is like... her best album in 16 years.

Maturity. Lily showed a lot of growth with this new album, not only in getting vulnerable about her experiences, but in showing how she grew from letting this man walk all over her to realizing "it's not me, it's you."

 

Marina is fun for some bops and vocal acrobatics, but it feels like she rehashes her old songs a bit. That new deluxe song Unfamiliar Heavens is like Buy the Stars again, but not quite as good; I guess it was a new level of vulnerability for her, going deeper and being more literal about how she feels about her father, but as an audience, it feels like we've already been there with her, idk.
