I literally don't get ATRL. Rihanna's show is right up there with the other pop girls. I must've missed the incredible choreo that Katy Perry was serving on her show because all I remember is a badly coordinated shark. 

 

And I think Katy's show was great but it wasn't any better than Rihanna's.

So :

Stage was INSANE 

Hands down and without even coming anything close to it the best stage ever made in the SuperBowl.  Absolutely futuristic and an absolute pleasure to watch 

 

Outfits i liked them. I loved the white and red in contrast with the green field . Do i love the red outfit ? No . But i can live with that 

 

Vocals were on point . Yes half of it was pre recorded . So what . I wasn't expecting 100% live anyways 

 

Setlist was almost perfect . I missed DSTM , maybe POSE was not needed  

 

And the most important.  She was absolutely gorgeous,  her face was shining and she was so happy she looked like she enjoyed it 

 

 

Setlist breakdown 

BBHMM : Only her could open the SuperBowl with such a song .. 

If you ask me her signature song of the last years . I loved it , but i wouldn't mind a different transition to WHYB . I would have prefered the music to stop and her to say something like SUPERBOWL R U READY ? 

 

WHYB , OnlyGirl , WFL , RB , Work , WT , BC , PIU  : i wouldnt change a thing 

 

Pose : i would change it for DSTM or Whats My Name 

 

AOTL , RTT : maybe a bit shortened and add LYL or LTWYL 

 

Umbrella was done badly . It was the last moment with the dancers she could have had umbrellas or something more iconic . She only used the song to lift in the air 

 

Diamonds was the most iconic moment . It probably one of the best moments ever in a SuperBowl

This is wild!! The layering and stage dynamics are next level!

the weakest parts are Pour it Up and Umbrella tbh. It was fire until Work/Wild Thoughts then it truly needed a switch up. different outfit, different colors, different stage. A different prop. It was too samey. her insane catalogue saved it but if would have been truly boring otherwise.

 

then Umbrella was truly uneventful. where was the rain, the umbrellas.. anything.  the lighting and camera work was good for Diamonds as the closing song but Umbrella was boring and deserved better. 

 

as for the setlist, I get that they wanted to skip the ballads (even if Stay and LOTB performances have always been among her best) but damn she truly didn't need to snub Pon de Replay and Don't Stop The Music. hell even WMN? should have made it. 

The love for the performance on TikTok is insane. She just does it so effortlessly 

So disappointed as someone whos been a stan since 2008. 

 

Her heart just isn't in it anymore. 

 

Congrats on the baby though and glad some of you enjoyed it.

I haven’t been here for the whole day to avoid any meltdown. I’ve heard nothing but praise around me today from people who aren’t familiar with pop/stan culture. Even the comments on YouTube are positive. Personally, I enjoyed the performance. The floating stages were amazing. We need to give the dancers their props too. Everything felt surreal and Rihanna seemed to enjoy her time on stage and tbh that’s all that matters to me!
