Claire Elizabeth Cotrill is an American singer-songwriter. She rose to fame following the viral success of her lo-fi single "Pretty Girl" in 2017. Her debut EP, Diary 001, was released on May 25, 2018 on Fader Label.

Her debut album, Immunity(2019) spawned the singles "Bags" and "Sofia", the latter became a sleeper hit and her first song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her follow-up, Sling, was released in 2021 and is her first album released under Republic. It received critical acclaim, currently sitting at an average score of 84 on Metacritic with 21 reviews. The album debuted at #17 on the BB200, her first top 20 on the chart.

i'm really not that indie/alt these days but it was my fave album of last year, really leans into the 70s vibe but so stacked with bops as well.

 

i used to listen to her bandcamp stuff a bit - which i haven't heard for years - but drifted off when she went pop (tho i really like immunity now lol).

 

 i feel like she got her serious artiste album out of her system with sling - which is great but hard work - and has really found her spot now where she can make the music she wants to without it either being too serious or leaning very obvs against her instincts.

 

immunity is great but that era really stands apart from the other stuff she's done and i wonder how much it was a self conscious attempt to be a star which she ended up deciding she didn't want to do
