She has been force feeding us JayZ for a long time and every time people have the same reaction. It’s just not worth it. I know the album will be a masterpiece so I wanted it to have a more iconic title. The fact remains a lot of people have been criticizing the title. We can’t just erase their opinions because some of the points they’ve made are valid. The Kiss Ass Hive that brought up Maybelline Carter as some deep meaning are actually the ones doing her more disservice because that woman stole music from black people and never credited or paid them. Listen, I like Jay-Z but I agree with you in ways about seeing him involved with Beyonce artistically. It can be overdone and tired from her, but we have to separate incorporating Jay-Z artistically from the woman who is by name Beyoncé Giselle Knowles Carter. This album title has nothing to do with that other stuff with Jay-Z. At all! Anyone who views the album title as something to do with Jay-Z is not using their critical thinking skills. 5 1
Blue Rose Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Taking your husband’s last name is an outdated and misogynistic practice anyway. But that’s a conversation for another thread 1 1 4

Space&Time Posted March 13 Posted March 13 (edited) Why is the Hive like this though? I know no fan of any artist likes everything they do, but why does it seem the hive is always split in factions everytime Beyoncé does something. Isn’t there another or better way to enjoy your fave as a base? Edited March 13 by Space&Time

Isn’t there another or better way to enjoy your fave as a base? because she followed a very succint and specific way of doing things for a good chunk of her career. only in the past decade has she thrown all of that out the window. unfortunately some people have trouble adjusting to the way she is now. 4

I like that the Basé isn't culty and worshippy. we're all adults here and difference in opinion is not a bad thing inherently. what I don't like is the constant doom loop. like, let people enjoy the moment a bit! but no, we have to immediately start complaining within a couple hours of any new development. 5 1

Isn’t there another or better way to enjoy your fave as a base? This isn’t just the Hive. Every fanbase is like this. Everyone will have different opinions and expectations about every project and the discussions is what keeps the fandom alive. But I will say that it’s only the Hive that will attack others for having a disagreement that doesn’t even matter and will take everything personally 3

Space&Time Posted March 13 Posted March 13 (edited) I hear ya’ll. No pun intended, but I don’t think a cultish Hive mind base would be healthy. Especially if we just went up for everything with fervor we’d end up like the barbs. 😂 I’m with @kimberly It’s the doom and gloom part that gets me. If you don’t like it fine, but let’s not act like one’s personally disagreement with Beyonce’s choice is her downfall or indicative of her decline. Edited March 13 by Space&Time 1
Blue Rose Posted March 13 Posted March 13 People not liking an album title shouldn’t be labeled as doom and gloom tho. Let’s start there I remember how IASF was a more controversial title and I vaguely remember people saying she was changing her name. This is nothing compared to that. And if we take Beyoncé out of it, Joanne was also met with controversy. Names rarely work. It’s not an attack to Bey. 2
PrettyHurts Posted March 13 Posted March 13 y'all being surprised that bey considers herself a carter after being with jay z for 22 years and having 3 children with him 7

Well, it’s things like bringing up what other people are saying about the album title worrried that they perceive using Carter in an album title is an ode to Jay-Z. It implies there is some negative consequence about what those dummies think. f them. I believe when we hear the album, the title will make sense to everyone. Even if you don’t fall in love with it, you will at least respect in on it’s artistic merit. 5

GodSaveTheQueen Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I really don’t event think of Jay when I hear Carter. I forget that that’s even his last name. I immediately thought of a campy alter ego first when I heard the title. Carter being her married name was literally an afterthought. Cowboy Carter is fun! 1 1
V$. Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Quote Lesley “Esley” Riddle and The Carter Family In 1927, recording country music was a fairly new thing. Producer Ralph Peer toured the southeast looking for new talent. On July 25, 1927, Peer arrived in Bristol Tennessee, to record local musicians. The sessions would produce two new country music superstars: Jimmie Rodgers and The Carter Family. At that time, The Carter Family consisted of Alvin Pleasant (A.P.) Carter, his wife, Sara Carter, and A.P.’s sister-in-law (and Sara’s cousin), Maybelle Carter. After the success of the original session in Bristol, A.P. would tour the surrounding areas in search of folk songs to copyright and record. It was during one of these song finding missions that A.P. met Black guitarist and singer Lesley “Esley” Riddle. As soon as A.P. heard Riddle play, he was invited to the Carter home. From that time on, Riddle would accompany A.P. on many subsequent song finding missions. A.P. would write down the words and Riddle would act as a human recording machine, memorizing melodies and chord progressions. https://patrickmdavis108.medium.com/three-black-musicians-who-shaped-the-sound-of-country-music-fc3445ac4350 I- 5
Beyle Street Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I didn't even think of Jay when I saw the title I just figured "yep, she def named it that" And I'm one of the first to usually denounce KissAss Hive (I've been doing so since 2016 when they persisted that Lemonade being restricted from streaming was somehow a boss move) cause I don't want us to be forever in the clouds like Barbz. I also shoo away 24/7 PessimisticHive because that gloom and doom comes from the trauma of past era mistakes and they've existed since the 4 era
