The numbers are great compared to Lover (in terms of total streams), but compared to tu,n they're not that good, considering that's the record she broke

TU,N actually had two wildly succesful hit songs on it which were revitalised when the album dropped. 

Obviously TU,N is bigger strreaming wise, but Taylor did good and better than Lover. Especially that there is not a hit yet (Cardigan is cute, but the real tea is with The One and Exile feat Bon Iver.

Maybe cause TUN had 3 big smashes on practically every top hits/pop playlist then. We have to consider a good chunk of people don't care about brand new releases but stream these playlists and would stumble upon TUN/7R/buwyg. Nevertheless, both are pulling HUGE numbers and I'm happy for both women.  

I think Folklore is performing better just because the physicals aren't out

You guys are right. My bad.

I understand the drops are bigger but even as a stan, I'm listening to this album in full pretty much once a day. It's fantastic but it's not catchy at all and therefore you probably won't listent  to it over and over like you would a standard pop album.

Ariana LITERALLY had the entire Top 3 of the Hot 100 occupied simultaneously, I wouldn’t expect any less. 
 

IMO they’re not comparable, for that exact same reason. Taylor did enough breaking Ariana’s record, which wasn’t even expected.

Y'all love comparing folklore to TU, N. 

 

On TU, N's release, 3 singles were aiding the album. 2 of 3 were massive and most of the length of TU, N's songs are streaming friendly especially the singles. 

What album has the 2nd highest 1st week after TUN? Is it Lover or WWAFA?

Did you consider 2 HUGE hits and more than double of playlisting for thank u next? 

 

Being in middle of a pandemic and streaming numbers being lover than usual? 

 

Album being indie-folk with no song under 3 minutes which is totally against to being streaming friendly?

The fact that we are even having this discussion means that the album is doing amazing.  Folklore is a somber indie-pop album with no lead up and no hit singles from a pre -streaming era artist and Thank You Next is a full pop album with 2 massive singles from one of the most predominant streaming era artists.  14 years in from her first album and still being able to compete with the industry's top artists is really a testament to her power and talent.
