US Airplay Discussion

Despacito wasn't even top 50 on pop radio until a week after the JB remix and barely had an overall AI of 30M.:rip: US radio was paying little attention to it prior to the remix so it has been roughly four months. The remix helped the original get a boost in airplay because it certainly wasn't getting much prior to that remix.

Is anyone trying to prove otherwise? :rip:

LUIS FONSI - Despacito f/Daddy Yankee: 27.933 (-0.179)

No one doubts that the remix pushed the songs success in the US, but even than, it's still a Spanish song that was #1 on US radio. An amazing accomplishment. :clap3:

You literally just used the song being around for 7 months to justify why it's losing so much on radio.

It's been losing over 1 million on Pop alone with the remix, the version that 99% of the pop stations play.

I said that because you said it's been on the radio for seven months as if the original was doing well all on its own hence why I brought it up. If it wasn't for the remix it would've went downhill from there, that was the point. I'm certain your comprehension skills aren't that bad.

Well, the song was released on January 12th and they're basically the same song with an extra verse in English. :rip: No one says the remix didn't boost the radio success. My point still stands tho, it had an amazing radio run for a Spanish song. :clap3:

As if the person who recorded that extra verse in English didn't have unparalleled impact in shooting the song to the stratosphere :rip:

And you had two different points.

1. You justified the song losing 2 million daily now because the song had been around for 7 months when the remix (in which pop radio actually started paying attention; wasn't even Top 50 there before then) wasn't released until mid-April. That are mere three month or so span on Pop radio, fairly typical for a smash song regardless. The way the song is falling now there makes it's longevity pale in comparison to other huge hits released this year, who weren't losing that much consistently at this point of it's pop chart run, or chart run in general.

2. You say it's doing amazing for a Spanish song. To an extent I agree, but again, it all goes back to who was added to the song. You can't honestly say the song would have had half the success it has without Justin's "one extra verse" being added. Like, what other Spanish song has had a remix from an artist of such magnitude in the past five years? :toofunny2:

Regardless, the numbers don't lie, so we'll leave it at that.

Everyone. Agrees. The. Remix. Gave. The. Song. A. Huge. Boost. In. US.

It's not that hard to comprehend

So you ignore the rest of my post to keep from admitting your original point as incorrect. :rip:

I'm just saying the song had a great run for a Spanish song, even with Justin's verse it still only has one verse in English. And no one expected the radio to play it that much, even with Bieber. :michael:  I don't think the radio would've touched it if it wasn't as big on iTunes/streaming, so now that it's started falling they're dropping it completely. Racisme.

Why are people posting fake updates for Wild Thoughts?

Surely it didn't just gain +1.000 on pop alone?

I was told this had peaked 2 weeks ago?

It was over? dead? falling?

It's not over and it did not peak at all, as it seems. Rolling, P!nk's radio deal, etc. - everything had an impact on these low/negative updates, but it seems that it might be finally over and so Wild Thots might rise! :clap3:

People downplaying "Despacito"'s success con Radio :dies: It's the first mostly spanish song to reach #1 con Overall Radio, not even "Macarena" could achieve that. And it not only topped it, but stayed there for 5 consecutive weeks :rip: And, yes, Radio has been playing the song for 7 months now, don't forget that Latin/Spanish formats have had it on rotation since January, so, you would expect it to fall harder since its core format has played it to death and beyond, and obviously dropped it before other formats that catched up several months later.

Yet we're still choosing to ignore who was added to the remix, where it was before the remix, and how many other Spanish song had the same treatment of having the biggest artist in the world on it's remix. :toofunny2:

OT: Guess WT hasn't peaked after all

Why is everybody quoting @Destroun to say: but despacito will still be #1?

He didnt say otherwise, just that the song is losing 2M AI per day, which is the truth, and at least i wasnt expecting that, i was expecting radio to keep playing it a lot during more weeks.

Yes. And remember Macarena had fallen all the way down to, maybe it's 27 and not 26, because I now think Macarena fell 16-27 for airplay in its final week at #1. With the song being in a foreign language, as was Macarena, English-radio stations will only play a song most listeners cannot comprehend for a somewhat-limited period of time, regardless of sales & streams. 1996 was WAY before anyone could have understood streaming music on ODS, but its massive physical sales (4.2-4.4 M total, and months of consecutively 100k+ sales week) kept it at #1 for 14 weeks anyway (with a #7 peak on airplay several weeks before the song left #1).
