Looks like pop girls are coming to snatch again

they can only have success with discounts and their streaming numbers are still dismal lmao (except for Selena I don't know how that video is doing so well on youtube lmao)

People need to stop discrediting artists for getting hits whether it's with a remix, a discount, a viral video etc. I'm glad Miley's using her resources to make Malibu a hit. Same with Selena. At least they or their team actually care about making the song a hit.

Besides, I don't see anyone coming for Slow Hands or Redbone or Congratulations for being discounted. A hits a hit.

I'm not a fan of pop girls but that's the Drake stans trying to talk about desperate when...nevermind.

Then how come when Taylor would instagram songs they'd see huge boosts?

Taylor is a clear exception and even that didn't work for HAIM, Lorde etc.

Bad Liar and Malibu are #28 and #29, how is that dismal?

And "Malibu" just passed 150 million views on youtube in barely a month. It's gonna pass 1 billion in the end, if it keeps this road. Their streaming numbers are more than ok. Especially for non-urban songs.

I mean, I can't lie and pretend that it doesn't bum me out slightly that almost all of my favorite hits this past year have had their chart performances largely aided by discounts. But, the way I figure, it's just the future. With songs selling ****, it doesn't really make much of a difference anyway. I don't see why they don't just make all songs on iTunes .69 or at least .99.

$1.29 is just crazy when you can so easily get it for free.

Either way, hope these boosts last long enough to get them into the BB top 10.

always when pop girl won't post about her single or album there will be planty of atrls saying she is lazy dumb and when she is posting they are called "desperate" for hit.

atrl so transparent once again

16. David Guetta - 2U ft. Justin Bieber

Sooo why this is getting massive radio airplay when clearly Despacito & Im The One are higher

Bad Liar has been doing great :gaycat3:

Malibu is definitely a grower, I didn't care for it at first but now I like it, nice song.

Some in the music business wonder if the overall decline of digital sales -- this year, track sales are down 25 percent -- could push the standard price for a digital song back down to $0.99. Asked about a possible price drop overall, label executives emphatically responded: “No.”

I think that "Wild Thoughts" won't dethrone "Despacito" at this point. At least not now.

It's interesting how all these pop girls are flopping but anything with Rihanna is still a big deal 12 years into her career.

I agree that they should just lower the price of all songs. Though, I hate your other thought process. You're basically saying that music doesn't have any worth.

Why do people always jump to this conclusion? First of all, I'm a musician and songwriter, so I promise you I absolutely think music has plenty of worth. But come on! Don't act like label execs care more about the music than the bottom line.

Plus, I'm sorry, but $1.29 is crazy. I used to burn mixes and it would cost over $30 just to burn a CD's worth. I had to limit myself to one CD a month. And that was only when I got more money. I spent years where I could hardly listen to music beyond what was on the radio because it was too expensive. Now, I simply pay for Spotify premium and I can get as many mixes as I want a month. Why do people act like that is de-valuing music??

Like... sometimes I really get tired of some music fans. Like... good for you. You can afford to spend $1.29 on every half decent song that comes out but some people don't have that luxury.

You took that so far :deadbanana3:

I was referring to the fact that you said that you can "so easily get it for free." I'm not against streaming at all, I'm subscribed to Apple Music. I didn't say that you were devaluing music by paying for Spotify, in fact I didn't even mention streaming in my post. I was just saying that if you think music is better off being consumed for free, that you're devaluing it.

I'm sorry but I just hate the whole debate about paying for music. It's a topic that is so easy for people to get on their high horse about, as if paying full price makes you a better fan.

And I really don't have a problem with music being consumed for free. I think any artist worth their salt should always want their art to reach as wide an audience as possible always. And why is listening to music for free on YouTube de-valuing it? It's not like there won't always be money to be made in music. That's what touring and merchandising are for anyway.

Im sorry if you think I took it too far but, frankly, I stand by this one. I'm tired of all the casual comments from people on music boards turning their nose up on free music consumption as if it's killing the industry.
