MUFFINS

Generally speaking... about half and half. Here were my notes: Alysse Lucky Luvli (90's dance pop, drums + synths) Submit (Fast-paced, very poppy - hyperpop elements) Live the Life You Like (Darker vibe, MJ Thriller bassline) Real (Arca-type beat, continuing down a dark hole sound) Deja Vu (Electro-pop, deconstructed, I loved the different elements I heard in this one) [Track 8] (Beat transition from track 7 - Garage - heavy bass - "higher, higher, higher" chorus lyrics) [Track 9] (Another beat transition, I think. - more heavy bass, mid-tempo) [Track 10] (More 90's guitar pop. End of the chrous melody sounded a bit off beat, intentionally. Guitar solo toward the end.) Sublime (More 90's drums/indie pop).

I edited the post and added a couple more thoughts... hit send before I wanted to by accident lol. Weird not being able to listen to the album back for another month.. but I think most of you will be pleased with this album!

It was lit. They put our phones in zip lock bags, sat on these stone looking bean bag seats, dark ambience. Everyone got goodie bags with a SWALLOW notepad and sticker. She showed up and they played the album front to back. She spent maybe 20 mins giving long azz winded answers to questions, took a couple pictures, and bounced. She was super pleasant. Real cool experience. 1/3 of the album is more indie pop/shoegaze leaning than she's ever sounded with 90's drums and guitar. There's also some 90's inspired dance pop... one song sounded straight from Ray of Light, I think. Another 1/3 half of the album is Cruel Practice vibes. Heavy bass all throughout most songs tho. **** started to get weird come track 5. Some batshit beats, including track 7... that was the standout beat for me. Track 6 sounded Arca-produced but I'm not sure. Couple tracks in the middle have some hyper-pop elements. Last couple/few songs was back to shoegaze/indie-pop. Only 1 meh-ish song toward the end (track 9 or 10). Don't think she rapped on the album whatsoever. All singing. Speakers werent the best and we couldn't make out mostof the lyrics but she said her relationship/partner inspired a lot of the songwriting.

Show me how to like it :( Seriously tho the production and cadence yeah. I hear elements of C'est La Vie and some other songs. I think the lyrics just take me out of it. Glad most others are enjoying it tho.

They were both produced by Kingdom. Also why they sound reminiscent of 2014 Kelela.

Ngl great production but this is one of her worst albums songwriting-wise

And now you're menstruating all over this thread because of a "negative connotation"? Lol very weird. Grow up.

Not sure why that simple question is striking a nerve. I understand discourse in art, but complaining is clearly a trend in her songs and I'm curious if there's a story or intention behind it. Just like SZA is always begging in her songs.

At least 50% of it is a same-tone snoozefest with songs that don't progress anywhere. The few tracks outside of that are most of the standouts IMO.
