Like Communion said, those kind of go hand in hand. Hong is someone who I like personally but I don't really think she's fit to be the governor of a state tbh. The whole WI governor's race was filled with bad candidates from the start though so I'm not surprised she has the best chance to win the primary. The DNC really went out of their way this year to get the worst possible candidates for a lot of these primaries. I don't think Hong should be the nominee. El-Sayed is a strong candidate who I believe can and will win, Hong will likely lose and it will be used against progressives in 28 as "proof" that they can't win in swing states.

This style of politics has done, and will continue to do, more damage to the democratic party than any DSA candidate ever could.

Prior to this weekend, I thought Stevens was a lock to win after the establishment threw everything behind her (including a fake Obama endorsement). The fact she's losing at all is a disaster for her imo.

Any other election year, I would be concerned but I also remember last year's polling saying there was going to be a republican governor in New Jersey and Sherril won handily because of Trump's unpopularity. I imagine we'll see similar situations this year. For instance, Ossoff is going to easily win re-election but he would have never won in the first place if not for the unique situation 2020 presented.

Adele is going to need to hurry her ass up and make sure that lead single is good.

I agree. I've gone back and forth on whether she should run for president in 2028, but there really isn't going to be a better opportunity for her (or the left for that matter). The economic conditions for the majority of Americans are ripe for a left candidate to win. We tried the "return to normalcy" shtick with Biden in 2020 and it didn't work out in the end. Unless black voters turn on Kamala, the only other way to compete with her in the primary is to run from the left, which has worked out well for a lot of these progressive candidates.

El-Sayed even winning by 1% point is a disaster for the democratic establishment considering they went all out to try and stop him. "Electability" and goodwill with enough dem voters was the only thing preventing the left from ascending nationally and all of that died when Trump got re-elected.

This will have the same effect as the left calling MAGA "Nazi's". It's too over the top and too associated with a certain period in history that most people under the age of 50 have no connection to.

Good. The next generation will have something to rebel against, which is badly needed for pop culture.

The problem is that she's still a terrible campaigner at the end of the day. I reckon it will go the way it always goes for her when she runs for anything nationally. She'll start off strong and people will slowly lose interest. I stand by my feeling that the only thing she will be able to do is play spoiler. Either she stays in the race and denies someone like Newsom the black vote early on or she drops out and hurts the progressive candidate by allowing black voters to go to someone like Newsom. Ultimately, it's probably best for progressives that she runs and stays competitive enough. However, I'm not ready for the discourse that the democratic party has abandoned black voters simply because working class and Latino voters aren't likely to back an already proven loser.

Problem is he's not exciting enough to capture the very real anger of democratic voters. People are going to want a fighter. That's why Newsom is a threat. To his credit, he's good at taking on Trump but that's about it.

Don't get me wrong, I agree. My guess is she wants to create some separation/independence from the progressive movement in regards to her own political aspirations in the future. For example, I assume she didn't back Platner because she's worried it would be used against her, especially if he were to lose. I have no doubt that she privately backs all of these candidates but publicly she's obviously playing it safe. While I understand why she's doing it, I still think it's ultimately pointless. She will always have at least a semi-hostile relationship with the establishment as long as she isn't completely captured by party donors.

I feel like I can't be upset with AOC over this because she's the one with the most mainstream appeal and has the highest ceiling. Mamdani can never run for president and a lot of these DSA candidates will never go beyond the house. They can disrupt the party because the only people they have to answer to are their local constituents. At the end of the day, progressives will still need moderate/establishment dems to pass legislation. If she were ever to reach higher office like the presidency, a hostile relationship with Congress would be detrimental. Not to say I agree with that thinking personally, but I understand her hesitation.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 2028 election is a mirror of what happened in 2016, only with Marco Rubio playing the role of Hillary. A former, respected Secretary of State who the establishment views as the "safe", electable candidate, but who is also hated by the base of the party. Trump had a unique appeal in the rust belt that I can't see transferring to Rubio, or even Vance. I can imagine Latino voters backing Rubio while working class and rural voters back a populist democratic candidate, assuming the right candidate comes along and meets the moment. If AOC doesn't run, then the progressive lane will be wide open for a Trump-like candidate on the left, who can take advantage of a crowded primary field. It would require a strategy that involves losing the South but I feel like that's where Kamala comes into play as a likely spoiler to the preferred establishment candidate by keeping black voters in her corner, especially older ones in the south. I've said it before, but it's possible the next democratic nominee doesn't win the majority of black voters in the primary. With Trump's failure comes an opportunity for a re-alignment election that's long overdue for the democratic party.
