The best-selling French-language album of all time was released in 1995. D'eux marked the beginning of an historic collaboration between Céline and Jean-Jacques Goldman. For the record, it stayed at #1 for 44 weeks in France and sold more than 4.5M copies in the country.

 

This album was/still is a big phenomenon. Even album tracks like J'irai Où Tu Iras, Vole or Destin are widely known, which is an impressive feat for an album that was released way before the streaming era.

 

It scored two #1 songs: Je Sais Pas & Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore (which is like the best french song of all time).

 

 

This song transcends generations and is known by everyone. It is the epitome of the genius of Céline and Goldman. Immortal song, immortal album. :heart:

    she snapped on the studio regardless :clap3:the way her voice just dripped with emotion and made the song come alive (for me who cant understand French).

     

    OT: Deux made me sift through her French discography and I must say that Suffisait D'Aimer is an underrated record of hers (I'm aware of its success) and kind of a personal fave of mine. Je crois toi alone :DWAS:

    If she's releasing a french album, I hope she will reunite with JJG (there are strong rumours lately).

    It was really a career defining moment for Celine, the very start of her international career. The singles, the album, the tour, etc it's really the most iconic non-english era ever.

    I just looked and it says it sold 9.9 million while D'eux is at 12 million. Both are still increasing but D'eux is increasing at a higher rate I would say so highly improbable it surpass one day

    The fact it sold 250k in the UK, I wonder how close to 300k and Platinum it is since these numbers are old.

    D'Eux is such a fantastic album, one of her best ones, and a perfect era. It deserves all of its success.

    Honestly, it must be so hard for a non-french person to understand the poetry and the genius behind Goldman's lyrics, I tried to take a look at the way YouTube and websites like Genius translate them and well, they look so basic and bland, they completely lose their substance :rip:
