In 2016 Selena released "Hands to Myself" as the third single from her album Revival. The song was undeniably a hit, it peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, went #1 on the Billboard Pop Radio chart, was #56 on the year end Billboard Hot 100 chart of 2016. Has over 700 million Spotify streams which is impressive for a 2016 hit. It also went Top 10 in many countries worldwide.

Not the biggest Selena fan at all but this song, it's music video, and her SNL performance of this song felt like a strong moment of her career, where she genuinely slayed. It's also one of her best songs easily.

If this song was released as the first single to Revival could it have possibly reached #1? Was it a mistake releasing this as a third single? Should it have been a #1 hit? Discuss.

I like Selena and I enjoy many of her singles but Hands To Myself has to be the most overrated song of her discography. Never understood the hype for this one :deadbanana:

Wtf? This song felt bigger than it was especially internationally

Good for you and Same old love deserved #1 too though. I feel like she had a 1-2-3 punch single run with Revival, but just in the wrong order that would have benefitted her the most and make her have an insane smash hit era.

Revival is the only album and era of hers that slayed me and I feel like it's the only album/era where she actually pushed and cared to be a pop star. She had potential as a mpg but she's slaying and succeeding as an actress rn so she still won.

GFY was the perfect lead single, doubling down on her newfound sound from THWWIW and shifting her branding way more than the more pop-leaning follow up singles would have done. It is better than SOL in my opinion, but the second single was always going to do well and she needed an undeniable hit for the third single if she was going for longevity. It was undeniable and it paid off, the song should have been bigger definitely.

The amount of straights saying I mean I could but why would I want to?

It was her first top 5 in Canada so at least we showed taste :clap3:

The INTENSE teasing & hype in late '15 made it seem like it would make #1 tbh

well, its US Spotify peak and Streaming Songs peak were both #6

if in terms of personal enjoyment of the song, then yes
