This feels soo disrespectful to Renny. There's such a huge difference in quality between them, it's unfair to put them in the same category. Renaissance clears in every single category!

  • There's only a handful of albums I've listened to that are as rich in sound and references and masterful in its execution as Renaissance. A lady ga ga record would definitely not be among those.

Mayhem has no fillers. Renaissance and its boring R&B nobody asked yes

  • Mayhem is really good, but Renny is just on a whole other level   Arguably Beyonce's best work

That is fair, but you have to admit that basing your judgment on 1 listen is just, for a lack of better words, extremely superficial. I can only advice you to listen to Beys projects a couple of times because they truly develop over time. I also wouldnt binge-listen to them, but just do the whole album every once in a while. I guarantee your opinion will change because there's so much nuance in her music that literally goes over your head on an initial listen. Heck, I even feel that way as a stan

After reading this post and the edited post, I have to say two things. First one, with all the best intention, I think that one of the things that put me off and others from the Hive is that you always present Beyoncé as the second coming of Christ, and, while I do think she's an amazing artist and professional that loves her craft, and I do think she's more stable in quality terms than Gaga (my fave), I think y'all do too much sometimes. Just an observation, all artists have room for criticism.

Second thing, I find really interesting all the things you said in the edited post, and I'm willing to dig deeper into them. I'll follow your advice, because while I still think she's not 100% untouchable, she's one of the most interesting artists of this time, and I'm probably missing a lot of stuff. I've been buying her music since IASF up until Ren, because I wasn't feeling the first songs I heard (same with CC). So believe when I say I do love her and respect her a lot. I'll give Ren a deeper listening and investigation, thanks for the feedback sis :heart2:

I think if you read our base, you'd know we probably roast Bey more than anybody else lol. Its just we get defensive when we can tell that others dont even give her a fair chance because of preconcieved notions, when its blatant trolling, when it feels like people want to take away her accomplishments ("Jay bought that") that we defend her.

I think I can speak for the Hive that we absolutely have 0 problems with somebody stating "I dont like her music". It becomes a problem tho if you say "I dont like her music -> I dont listen to her -> her music sucks". Because how do u want to make a point if u dont listen? How do you want to be a judge of art when u dont give it a well-intended go?

Or another example:

I personally listened to Mayhem in total 4 times, im still giving some songs chances because I want to give Gaga a fair chance. I initially vibed way more with Jennies "Ruby". Yet you don't see me in every Gaga thread reiterating how much her music sucks, how shes lost it, how bad her output is. I even complimented Abra for instance.

You cannot expect the Hive "to take it" and not act defensively with the amount of unfair **** we have to constantly read online and then, when we respond, say we "treat her like the second coming if God". It doesnt work like that. We are confronted daily with insane negativity to the degree of people thinking she's a sex trafficker, an evil woman responsible for the death of others, an absolutely shitty musician who deserves nothing by people who stan Britney and then say "omg, Hive is so obnoxious with the way they defend Beyonce".

How about people start treating her like a REAL human who is a musician first and foremost and focus truly on her music? Maybe then u'll also meet the Hive in a way thats way more approachable and nuanced.

*I'm aware my mini-essay was a bit all over the place, but the negativity surrounding Bey has been quite overwhelming these past 5 months tbh. So I just used this opportunity to speak my mind a little. I appreciate your style of convo :heart2:
