Brooke Candy has posted a series of tweets expressing her frustration over being labeled a "flop" and campaigning her albums without the help of a major label and budget

 

She even goes on to mention Chappel and Charli:

 

Thoughts? IMO, this is really sad because Brooke is really talented but I fear that she hasn't done enough to cultivate a strong fanbase since the decade+ she's been making music. First official album in 2019 for someone who's been in the industry so long is kinda nuts but I understand there may have been label/contract issues to work through. On top of that, her sound and style is not exactly mainstream.
 

Anyway, if you haven't already give her newest album CANDYLAND a listen, it has plenty of bops incl. Pills, Block, Crucify My Love, ATM, etc

 

 

Brooke's victim complex is both embarrassing and is ruining her career's potential. There are plenty of "pioneers" out there that some would unfairly call "one hit wonders" or "flops" but you don't seem them out there crying about budget and big label backing.

 

Look at Carly Rae Jepsen for example - a true artist who's had big moments but doesn't let the valleys in her career affect her negatively. She's a critic darling, constantly touring and releasing new music and has cultivated an extremely loyal and passionate fan base. Same with Charli - sure brat has been MASSIVE this year but that was after years of pushing and pushing while bubbling under the GP radar.

 

If you're an artist, your drive to create should be above all else ALWAYS. Otherwise you're in it for the wrong reasons.

She moved on too fast from Candyland and followed it up with a meh single. Should have kept pushing Crisis as that was the track that was showing the most organic growth. 

Her material just isn't there. Most flops despite flopping have massive peaks of artistry that she never really achieved. 
 

I understand her frustrations because as a record label artist, you will be limited in your craft because they want you to make as much as commercially safe songs you can in order to get you promoted to a more broad audience, but without record label,  you don't have that amount of money and networking to promote your own independently released art 

 

That said, both her record label owned "Volcano" and newely independently released "Safe Word" songs are BOPS

she doesn't realise some of these artists that are now cult icons were also on the verge of irrelevancy or WERE irrelevant at one point. i remember charli post sucker when her career took a nosedive after the success she had, NOBODY gaf about her. her engagement on her socials was bad and the few people that did care were all telling her she souled out that whole time…then she slowly reinvented herself in 2016 and started honing her artistry even tho she was still khia, but more and more people started checking for her. now her fanbase is huge and she's seen as a tastemaker in the industry. that's what brooke should be doing. 

She's had influential, well-connected industry people championing her like Sia but she burned all of those bridges. Unfortunate that she's so unhappy but her rotten attitude is the problem. She's not a virtuoso or musical genius. She should be grateful for having an audience of any kind, not calling them incels and ****. Kinda crazy she thinks 18-20 yr olds even know who she is. No shade, just facts, she's a relic of the 2010s & if it wasn't for her Charli features, she'd have been completely forgotten by now. Good luck to her in her new work force

She's good for a lewk though and some of her older music slays. 

 

CANDYLAND was unlistenable.

I think she has that Gaga/Kesha thing from back in the day which today Charli/Chappel does have. 
 

I think she has that star energy, she is supposed to be a STAR but something is blocking her. She had a nice vision i liked her material and it always shocked me how she was so unsuccessful. 
 

Kat Deluna for example is also super talented, good music, good voice, good performer but she lacks that star power. Both flops but deserve so much more. I believe they need to do some energy work or something

Based on what I read she's part of the problem, she's even dragging the fans she has lol.

I understand she doesn't have major back-up but someone with her background would have made it much further with better planning. She did collaborate with Charli XCX, Grimes and even Cupcakke (which like herself, was on her own of her pretty much for the majority of her time). She was even supposed to work with Kylie before plans fell through 

 

A major problem with her career is that she never progressed as an artist and the whole "stank **** pop bimbo" vibe was fun for a few singles but it's not fun enough to warrant an entire career. She always had an ironic bone and shtick to her original work that she lost and got too self-centered in the same old aesthetic without any growth or maturity. I'm sorry but how many people are actually willing to unironically listen to Brooke Candy?

I think I triggered her when I asked what she was retiring from  lo siento 

 

but in all honesty, her music was better when she had Sia writing for her. The Opulence EP was great and the few singles she put out after were pretty good.

 

The new thing she's on… I dunno. I don't see the mass appeal of it 

I thought she came from money? I think her family owns part of Conde Nast?
