but no one uses it like that

I do.

It's a for people who want to be different.

 

when you ask something and someone replies you can "thank" them

I treat it as something even better than the "Like" reaction. 

 

Something like "You win with that comment"

I see heart as more of a general like / good post / cute post etc.

 

I see thanks as more of a "Thank you for saying that" / "you put that into better words than I could have" / "You directly answered my question and/or did a favour for me"

the better question is:

I use it as "thanks" so don't speak for everyone

Yeah this is how I interpret it. To me a heart is like a "like" or a "thumbs up" but the trophy is a "love" 

I see it as "spill" "this" and "thanks"
