It's a really special album, in the sense that it feels like it wants to be hated. The production choices are really irritating, you can never get completely used to them. But, at the same time, that's what makes it so great. 

 

It's sad that it's kind of forgotten nowadays. I don't think it appeared in a lot of Best of the 2010s lists, even if it got good reviews at release. It's a shame, it's one of the most interesting records of the time. I haven't heard anything similar since.

I also love the unabashedly Marxist and Queer themes of Shaking the Habitual. It's not something that you see everyday, and it was quite a turn from Silent Shout.

 

Non-album single but let me sneak this in because it's such a bop.

Still, nothing hooked me quite like the song in the OP. I need to listen to Shaking the Habitual; all the "made to be hated" talk in this thread has me curious.

They are so amazing in general, whew...
