You can't deny how in tune with Brazilian dance music she is - it feels genuinely authentic to me too.

Baile Rave has so much potential for the mainstream

This was a scratched song that didn’t make it to the official album. She doesn’t even perform this song.

also I like Anitta but she keeps releasing horrible songs her last good one was envolver and it was the reason the song was so successful she should’ve followed with that instead of releasing a rock song produced by max martin only because Olivia was smashing with that sound at the moment. paradinha was an amazing single and visuals that would work for her

It was fresh, fun and she stood out

Seems like this time she's trying an approach with a more "different" sound with funk music, but yeah, reactions will be very polarized.

Why ae latin artists such cowards

why hasn't Anitta tried to release a funk track in english

this is not only about her tho. People like selena, Shakira o Jlo haven't done it with reggeaton and other latin sounds either. It's a market waiting to be exploited

She could do it and it wouldn't gain support. It would be a flop. I find it so funny when people say similar stuff. People HATE new stuff, you see it all the time, artist that change their sound and flop into oblivion. You see movies, series, people want the same stuff over and over. Making something new, sometimes work, but it is rare. It will work if a trend is already there.

Gloria Stefan was the one that paved the way for Shakira. Shakira was a pop rock singer, with deep lyrics, who didn't dance and didn't have a sexy image. She was huge in Latin America and huge among the US Latin community. Now, she didn't do nothing daring in her first English album, her record company just copied what Gloria did before in songs like "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You": a sexy talented latina who is singing a pop song with traditional musical elements. The rest of Shakira's album is pretty much the pop rock sound of that time.

J.lo is something totally different, when she got "Selena", she got a musical carreer, and she was embraced by the public. Her sound is 95% r&b. She always marketed herself as a hot latina who can dance.  I mean, Hollywood would treat her as a latina and she took advantage of it.

Both women came into the pop scene right after Ricky Martin dominated the US. Gloria Stefan also was still a popular name. They called it the "latin wave".

Anitta doesn't have a strong fanbase outside Brazil. She never really did an album and a promotional work focused on the spanish language markets. Yes, she did some singles, some tv shows, but it was when she was trying to be her own manager, she did lack the power of a good label and a good manager for the area. Also, Europe would be much more open to a funk record during summertime than the US. She should focus on Europe also.

When I say focus, I mean: heavy promotional work with a big, good label backing it up together with a manager who understand that part of the world.

to be fair, Envolver only started smashing a few weeks after "Boys Don't Cry" was released, so it wasn't really a follow-up to Envolver in that sense

I love Anitta’s visuals. It’s great we’re getting an album so soon after last years one. This probably won’t do anything but it’s nice to see the care and effort she puts in.

You're acting like doing what everybody else is doing is giving her hits. She floped hard by doing pop

It is not my opinion; it is how the industry works.

It is not about doing what someone did before, it is about making her work more palatable to a new audience/culture.

US is not the place to try being original. Europe is.

By your way of thinking I can ask you: So why "Vai Malandra" wasn't a world hit? It features an American rapper. Or "Me Gusta" that heavily feature Brazilian musical elements? If it was like you think she should be able to make anything "original" viral and a hit. It is just not how it works. You may find some very few exceptions to this, but they are called exceptions because of how rare they are.

this might be good. though I think she should've done a faz gostoso Portuguese/English lyrics, that would be good.
