I can't believe this is still our only Renaissance visual. We need to file a class action suit.

GONE GIRL

Average score: 7.22

High score: 10 (@Soda Pop Queen, @Devin, @Ewan Chaos, @Achilles., @creativity.)

Low score: 1 (@MP2K, @Sanguine)

Drawing inspiration from both Gillian Flynn and Hall & Oates (the chorus flips and reverses their ‘70s classic “She’s Gone”), the title of this gospel-inflected ballad from SOS has a double meaning: “Gone Girl” is SZA’s farewell to a man who brings out the worst in her, with an eye to the new self that she’s trying to become.

Best bit: “I need your touch, not your scrutiny/Squeezin' too tight, boy, you're losin' me”

ATRL says…: “This one annoys me and it’s always confused me how so many people like it,” @a_d_22 said.

Chicken Tikka Masala out thank god :clap3:

I'm that girl serves its purpose as an intro track but I can understand why people aren't fans of it as a standalone song. A keep your eyes on the road tea :fan:

She spilled with "all these songs sound...good" though!

Your last taste of Bey for the moment, so tell me what you want, what you really, really want.

Gone Girl out, guess I'm not rooting for anything else in SOS! And that includes Good Days I don't want a 2020 song winning a 2022 rate :fish2:

Pop-punk classic "F2F" is still here!

Chicken teriyaki is a BOP but I agree I’m shocked it even made it this far, so

ITG is cute but definitely one of the weaker renny tracks

Same. I'm going by what Genius said! But it is clearer in the sample.

ENERGY

ft. Beam

Average score: 7.23

High score: 10 (@dooart, @Subomie, @Quicksand, @Ace Reject, @Sanguine)

Low score: 1 (@Taemira)

Renaissance is teeming with samples, interpolations and references, including several on this pumping collaboration with Jamaican dancehall artist Beam, but none made more noise than a cameo by the iconic la la la la la from “Milkshake” on the final chorus. Though Beyoncé cleared its use with the rightsholders, singer Kelis was as surprised to hear it as the rest of us, slamming it as “theft.” She raised such a public fuss that it was removed from “Energy” on streaming services a few days later.

Best bit: “You know that I'm gon' be extra/When that camera go, ‘Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop’”

ATRL says…: “BRING BACK THE KELIS SAMPLE,” @madonnas demanded. @Ewan Chaos was unbothered. “I know people cry about the Kelis sample being removed but I could barely even notice LMAO,” he wrote. @Rev8 thought “the culmination goes hard.”

I also agree the Kelis sample didn't make much difference either way.

This is such a good workout song, didn't realise people didn't like it til this rate
