Grace Jones appreciation thread

Featured Replies

In honor of her being featured on Beyonce's "MOVE" on RENAISSANCE, let's appreciate her fashion and her bops :jonny5:

truly THE most underrated female singer ever, her discography is amazing :clap3:

Grace’s impact and influence in music and pop girl fashion can still be felt to this very day but everybody pays her dust

wake up gays! stan this legend

She’s one of my favorite female artists EVER and people need to stop sleeping on her :jonny4:

If you’re new to her, listen to Island Life first (it’s a flawless compilation), then check out the parent album of whichever song you liked the most, then go further from there.

Also leaving this here because it’s iconic

She had some cute fashion moments; but her music never gave and there's a reason it's forgotten.

This is how I feel also. I respect her fashion impact but her music is weak af. Her most known songs being a cover of a franchise classic tells you everything.

Not when her music is still used for the soundtrack of high-profile movies and TV shows to this day (The French Dispatch, Pose, Almodóvar’s Pain and Glory, Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar just to name a few). Several A-list musicians requested to work with her in the past decade, too (Beyoncé, Gorillaz, Lorde). Her version of La vie en rose and Libertango remain timeless, Nightclubbing has become a cult album, and Slave to the Rhythm is one of the best songs of the ‘80s. :gaycat:

Yeah proof that image isn't everything and I guess that's where some of her bitterness comes from.

She has 4 amazing albums - Nightclubbing, Slave To The Rhythm, Warm leatherette & Hurricane. Other than that a lot of great songs on her other releases. Def a pop icon.

I honestly know her mostly for her influences on fashion than for her music but she's an icon for sure.
