Self-titles for albums tend to be seem as lazy and/or un-creative.

Usually used either to introduce an artist, to be the ultimate representation of the artist, or to show an intimate or true version of them, self-titles fall short on originality since it's such a trite and overdone resource.

 

But are there cases where the artist have used their names on albums yet be able to do so creatively?

 

For example:

"MDNA" by Madonna

The title works as a triple entendre.

It stands for (1) her name, (2) her DNA and (3) as a playful reference to the drug MDMA.

 

A second example:

"Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse" by Mariah Carey

She refers to herself on the title in three different ways: first person pronoun, by name and nickname. Apex of her campiness and over-the-top-ness.

 

I'd like to know more of these. Do you know any?

Liam Payne - LP1 for his debut

Noah Cyrus - NC-17 (she was 17 when this would’ve been out)
