Hear me out!

 

Kelly is a beloved singer. The Grammy's have continued to nominating her music though the years even as sales and popularity lessened. Kelly was last nominated in 2018 for Meaning of Life before her talk show even launched and she was beginning her reign as queen of The Voice.

 

Since then, Kelly has wigged her way back into Mainstream America's heart. Her beloved talkshow launch the insanely popular Kellyoke segment, which is getting it's own EP release next month. The first release was of Billie's 'Happier Than Ever'. It has been critically acclaimed since release. 

 

So what do you think? Would the Grammy's nominate a theoretical full length Kellyoke cover album in the future? Would they reward her constant hustle and unparalleled ability to serve vocal quality with a nomination or... even win??

Easy answer, no.

It definitely SHOULD, but *I think* they have a rule of only allowing albums with at least half the tracks being originals to be nominated, so that automatically disqualifies a Kellyoke album. Unless they change the rules… which I don’t know if they will anytime soon…

 

Her latest Christmas album, “When Christmas Comes Around” MIGHT get nominated for something since a lot of the songs are originals.

Covers (and all new recordings) are allowed to compete in all category as long as 

 

I) they were released within the eligibility window (e.g. Tony/Gaga's IGAKOOY)

II) released within the previous five years of being attached to an being released in the current eligibility cycle and hadn’t been previously submitted (e.g. Truth Hurts) 

III) released commercially on an album previously nominated in the prior cycle but didn’t win (e.g. Just Give Me a Reason)

 

Albums are allowed to compete in the relevant category as along as their total tracklistings or runtime consists of 51% newly recorded material (e.g. HIStory)
