it annoys me so much when english speakers insist on pronouncing city/country names the way locals do in their own language. the classic example being someone who wants to say barTHelona instead of barcelona, when speaking english.

and i just saw a video of an american talking about rio de janeiro, but was pronouncing it like the locals do, code switching mid-sentence. eyeroll.

how do these types of people think non-native english speakers talk about english countries/cities? like...they certainly arent switching to some perfect english pronunciation/accent mid-sentence

There was a group of teenagers there when I went on Tuesday who I was on the machine next to at one point, they were hogging one machine for like... 40 minutes and not actually using it, running around, getting in the space of the people on the machines next to them (me included), ignoring and laughing at anyone who asked if they were nearly done, like... Just go home, good lord

Far too many people use some of the machines at the gym as just a chair or somewhere to go on their phone for 10 minutes

The guy on the treadmill next to mine yesterday was watching TikToks without headphones so loudly I could hear them over my own music

If the gym is big and has machines to spare it's not a big deal. But yeah, what conatus said + groups of people make me anxious because my dumbass can't fully get over trauma (which is funny because the jocks never had issues with me, it was the gays who stanned Gaga )
