I think it's the styling (or lack thereof) that is telling... A man can show up unwashed, in a shirt covered in stains, and still be respected, but a woman would be shamed and told to clean up her act if she did the same thing.

It's true it has nothing to do with how the music sounds, but I think those of us who follow female artists do so because we like the effort they put into the whole package.
