Didn't she take the video herself from the crowd though, how can her own footage be copyrighted?

For Empire, Lady Gaga said that "Joker: Folie à Deux" does not have a specific genre:

"It's a film that doesn't just have one genre. It's a psychological thriller, a drama and a tragedy. It would be difficult to say that it doesn't have comedy because it's very funny, at different times. Furthermore, it's a film that uses music in a extremely specific."

Lady Gaga shared the study process to develop her Harley Quinn in "Joker: Folie à Deux":

"I did my best, of course. I researched and learned about her background and all the interesting pieces that are part of the character's universe, to then develop the idea. But, my main approach was to understand what the real purpose of the character was story of this film and what Harley would add, good and bad, to Arthur's life."

Empire Magazine confirms that actress Catherine Keener will play Maryanne Stewart, Arthur's lawyer, in "Joker: Folie à Deux".

"She believes that Arthur's behavior is the result of an abusive childhood, which ultimately caused a fractured personality. She hopes that he will not be seen by the jury as a culprit, but rather as a victim of his own insanity."

Todd Phillips talks about the musicality in "Joker: Folie à Deux" and quotes the classic "Chicago":

"Music is an essential element of the project, but it's not like we're making a musical similar to 'Chicago', which I actually love. The idea here is to deliver musicality without traditional constraints. It's about creating a liveliness in moments different, without sounding extremely planned or choreographed. How can we allow there to be a fluidity in the scenes? Gaga and Joaquin managed to nail the tone of the script and it was magical."

Lady Gaga on the music in "Joker: Folie à Deux":

"I believe my best work as an actress in this film was treating music in a different way than I do on stage. Here, it's about the character's perspective and how the song lyrics make sense in each scene. It's an extension of dialogue, in a natural way."

I wouldn't say so, you could make an argument for Shallow but none of the other songs were used in the way she describes there. ASIB was more of a movie about musicians and showed them performing songs.

INLA after Jackson died? WDYDT being her pop sellout song? :suburban:

ASIB was more of Gaga unlearning how to perform on a stage as "Gaga" whereas with JFAD i think she'll unwind her musical knowledge even more. Joker and Harley aren't performers, they're mentally ill individuals who will use music to process and express their emotions. That's my initial hunch anyway.

Empire Magazine says that "Joker: Folie à Deux" challenges the musical genre in theaters:

"The way the characters sing challenges our perceptions of what a musical is. There are no big choreographed street numbers. It's just Arthur and Lee, sharing the world."

Good. This is why it's not being marketed as a musical rather than being an attempt to deceive the audience a la Mean Girls/Willy Wonka which backfired in both cases.

The soundtrack for "Joker: Folie à Deux" will feature reinterpretations of songs from classic 20th century musicals.

Additionally, Gaga and Joaquin will perform their versions of compositions by Burt Bacharach, Hal David, Anthony Newley and Jacques Brel.
